PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Does not reach title screen without tinkering

Fixes others have suggested can get you into the game, but it will crash before long. If you're going to play this game, play it on Windows (or a console.)

PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
It crashes once in a blue moon.
If you're not setting the aforementioned launch options, good luck. The game will only actually successfully get to the main menu 1/10 times. With the launch options set, however, the experience is fine. This is true both on PC and on Steam Deck, seemingly regardless of the Proton version chosen.
GE Proton 8 seems to be what this game prefers you may have to cycle through the versions to find what works for you. 8-7 worked for me

Test on all standard Proton versions and the latest GE Proton. Game either will not launch or will hang on the initial loading screen after the cutscene. To launch the game you must force launch with Proton Experimental. After several launches, the game will again hang on the initial loading screen, even on Experimental. Once that happens, verifying integrity of game files will allow you to get pas the initial loading screen. Slight pain in the neck to play this amazing game on the Deck.

When it works, it works well.
Game will sometimes not let you get to the main menu. It will just hang on the loading screen.
I found that when I can't get to the main menu to start the game, I have to go and tell steam to verify the installation. After that the game will usually work just fine. Sometimes switching proton versions and a verify will work as well. At worst telling the game to reinstall seems to fix things for a bit.

I love the music and VAs. Being unable to have that coupled with the sheer waste of time that it is to try getting to the main menu kills it
Attempted to add the fixes provided before
No audio
Most times I can't reach the main menu, needing countless retries

I tried several versions of proton, but all of them either resulted in a crash after the opening, or an endless loading screen

Running Steam recommendations I cannot get past the first intro videos and loading screen. Have tried multiple times with no success. Have over 60 minutes on record of multiple attempts to just reach the main menu with no success

Sometimes there was some screen shaking already in menu on startup, which continued into the game. Toggling v-sync usually fixed this.
Early game the crashes are to a minimal, but at the endgame you get very frequent crashes
Almost at every startup I couldn't get past the initial loading screen, which required a hard restart of the Steam Deck and the game to make it work again. Sometimes took up to 10 minutes to get through this game, which caused lots of frustration.
I played through the storyline as I wanted to enjoy this title, but after the storyline I immediatly quitted playing, because of all the frequent crashes in the Item World.
The Item World is the main content for the endgame, but putting some hours in an item and then crashes out-of-the-blue without an auto-save in between made this a horrible experience.
Throughout the story line I noticed less issues and enjoyed it, start up was a hassle at times because of the 'stuck' loading screen, but if you can get past it, it was really stable.
Sometimes takes a few restarts to get to the initial menu
Game had terrible stutter/screen shake until I disabled VSYNC
Goes down to 50 FPS when walking around the map. 30 FPS with Vsync on. Make sure to keep Vsync off! I have an extremely powerful laptop so this shouldn't happen. Happens at both 1080p and 4k so GPU is likely not the bottleneck and it's a CPU issue
Switching resolutions is buggy and you will have to restart the game
Might have been my graphics driver causing crashes earlier. Hasn't crashed since then.

Works when it works, with both mouse and controller. Hourly crashing is a bummer, but will hopefully be fixed soon.
Every hour or so, the game lags my whole system into a near halt. Have to reboot to use computer again.
I just installed it and forced it into proton experimental and it booted right up without issue

Proton experimental now allows for the opening video to play and sound to play without having to do more extensive tinkering.

Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST GloriousEggroll
Delete the compatdata folder of your game ~/compatdata/1233880/ if you already had launched the game.
Install Proton-GE, specifically, Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST. Future builds don't work.
Launch the game with the specific Proton-GE version then close it.
Install protontricks and launch the command in the console.
protontricks 1233880 winecfg
Go to the libraries tab and add the following then close it.
- d3dx9_43
- mfplat
- wmp
- xaudio2_9
Add the following launch options ( on steam: Properties > General > Launch Options )
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
Launch the game and spam 'k' and the game should boot up with sound!
Shout out to cheshire.panther and nurotec for figuring this out!
Borderless fullscreen option is available.
Crashes are rare and mostly happened in start of the game. Auto-saves do help off-set the crashes.
NO AUDIO
Works with Proton 4 and 5 out of the box, however movies play really fast and there is no sound. Proton 6 and Experimental can't boot into the menu.

Experimental, 6.3-6 cant pass the 2 first logos. 5.13-6 Playable but not sound.
I am using nvidia 470 drivers.

The game is currently, with plain Proton (and wine, and Proton-GE) not playable (at least with sound)
tested was Proton 6.3, Proton Experimental, ProtonGE-5, ProtonGE-10, ProtonGE-12
Medium recommendation under Proton: Quite the hassle to get running, may need multiple attempts to skip opening video; semi-frequent crashes
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60
5.9-GE-3-ST GloriousEggroll
No sound under normal circumstances. When you disable the opening video via the config file, sound is still missing. If you manually skip the opening video, sound works.
Controller was not detected when using the Glorious Eggroll custom Proton version, but this was the only version I got the sound to work in. A workaround is to map your controller to your keyboard.
Every once in a while, the game crashes for no apparent reason. This usually happens in cutscenes, but it has happened in the hub world once as well.
Not skipping the opening video will cause the game to hang on a black screen. Skipping the opening video via the config file results in no audio within the game.

Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST

Audio doesn't work at all, and cutscenes either don't play or crash the game depending on your setup.
Proton-5.4-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
No audio. May be fixable with protontricks, but I haven't managed it yet.
Works fine but no sound.
No sound at all. The game seems to be unable to find or play the audio file. As a result, Dialogues written without audio pass very quickly.
