Ran quite honestly perfectly throughout my full story playthrough of 46 hours, absolutely zero issues faced.

Runs excellently when it finally starts. Possible "fix" for "A game is currently running" issue?
Takes slightly longer to open than you might think. Like a few others on this forum, I had Rockstar Games Launcher telling me the game is already open. My "fix" for this was found entirely by accident, simply waiting. Yes, really. When the warning window popped up that the game was already running, I started checking my phone for something related to the issue. Around 30-45 seconds later, the game suddenly started without any further input from me. From now on, even though the game says it's already running and won't launch a second copy, I just have to be patient and wait for it to appear. I'd guess it should take no less than two minutes on slower systems, but I don't have any way to test or confirm this.

In having an equal experience on Linux as I did with Windows.
Given my hardware, and after watching a lot of the benchmark videos, I was expecting a 20-30% hit in performance but there's a 0% hit.

MANGOHUD=1 gamemoderun %command%
Setting to fullscreen takes an extra try. Otherwise works just fine.

LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
Steps that i did to make the game to run properly:
- Disable Resizable bar
- Disable Steam overlay
- Set launch options: LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
With Resizable bar enabled after 10-30 minutes the whole system crashes. With Steam overlay enabled game crashes after 30-60 minutes. Without launch options game begins to stutter after ~30 minutes from any input (when moving a mouse or pressing on a keyboard).

Recently switched to linux and this was my first game on it. Massive lag at the start. Most important out of all these is YOUR DRIVERS. I was using cachyos nvidia drivers. Don't do that. Go to this site https://github.com/lutris/docs/blob/master/InstallingDrivers.md and run the command based on your distro. Works like an absolute charm after.
Install the drivers as mentioned before
Install the drivers as mentioned before
Make sure you enable rockstar cloud save before you first start playing, that way your saves will be synced from your previous systems.
Follow my notes
Follow the previous comment.
Unplayable out the box. Need the drivers installed.
Game runs great without any issues

Game runs really well. Could say it runs better than in windows.
Multiplayer works great, just as it did on windows.
I had to give myself some more zram and swap file sizes to avoid crashing due to my low RAM. Otherwise, the game runs smoothly.

I tried to launch the game via PortProton with install in it Rockstar Game Launcher. All versions of Proton wich I have in PortProton not working for me. I'm add Rockstar Launcher to Steam as an outside app, and game start and work well with Proton Experimental. Try this if you press button "play" in RL and nothing happing
Works like a charm out of the box

works like a charm
small glitches when loading
its working great now, I was not smart before as I switched to bazzite from linux but did not formated my hard drives, after formating to btrfs all the games that didn't work are working now Im a big dumb dumb

No dice on a 3080ti laptop
Tried a lot of launch options and Proton versions. Got to Save game loading screen at the most. Wasn't willing to roll back my nvidia drivers to earlier versions

LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
Добавьте LD_PRELOAD="" %command% в параметры запуска и не будет проблем с фризами в игре через онлайн режим, игра работает идеально.

Just works without problems!

None
Log in is required for launcher
Sometimes textures just pop right into the screen
Sometimes has a FPS drops but not too often
This game is a masterpiece and it is worth every penny.

USB Headset provides two audio devices (chat and game) - using either of these as output resulted in silence every ~5s for ~1s. Using my speakers (connected via 3.5mm cable) workes completely fine
Trees and their shadows flicker when coming closer - probably when changing LOD. Using TAA instead of FXAA made it less noticable
The game loves to jump back to windowed mode everytime you tab out

It just works
seems unusually quiet, have to have it on 70% system vol to be able to hear anything at all
PROTON_USE_VULKAN=1 %command%
Game crashes frequently while using vulkan

Social club error 17
Tried all the solutions I could find witch were few none helped

occasional frame drops. rebar and 4g decoding fixed this
works just as well as windows if not better
zero setup required. use steam proton and the game runs excellently

-windowed -noborder
Doesn't start properly on X11
X11 doesn't work/works only for a short period of time
Works great after fixing the game
Switching to Wayland solved almost all the issues and now runs flawlessly. Launch options propably optional but didn't test that

Don't touch it, no need it
To fix the "Unknown error FFFFFFFF" in Steam, follow these steps:
In the game's administration options, do not force compatibility—do not select any PROTON version.
Do not use any commands in the game's launch settings.
Go to the following folder:
steamapps/compatdata/1174180/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings/
Delete all the contents of this folder. Then, close everything, restart Steam, and launch the game in Story Mode. After that, close the game and return to the same folder: steamapps/compatdata/1174180/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings/
Delete everything except the file system.xml.
- Open the system.xml file and replace its contents with the following :
I put my own XML file here to you get the best graphic setings without any trouble:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/122UX8rOGWkritM1zK4-4CZylPb-2zIUW/view?usp=drive_link
Done! The game's startup issues are now solved, and the "Unknown error FFFFFFFF" has been eliminated.

If you change to DX12 and the game crashes on startup, edit the system.xml and change the API to Vulkan
Very minor lighting artifacts when entering/exiting some buildings. Also due to a VRAM leak, the game will artifact heavily once the limit is reached.
I needed to verify the game files before launching the first time, but since then it has worked flawlessly

It says lunching but can't play it!
the game is installed succsufuly but i cant play it, i guess I bought it thats why
I tried every thing, but none worked

The damn rockstar launcher keeps saying that the game is already running, even after reboot.
I've tried about everything and I don't know what to do.

PopOS! it runs great out of the box!
Zero issues, swear pop is still the best distro

Every static mesh would fade out and fade back in at least once when getting close to it (most notably trees and barriers)
Would crash during extended play sessions with "Unknown error FFFFFFFF"
No issues!

After adding the launch options everything worked perfect exept some minor graphical issues
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" game-performance %COMMAND% -width 1920 -height 1080 -fullscreen
sometimes when being inside of buildings the light glitches a little bit
without the launch options the game crashes due to VRAM leaking
Add launch options to fix VRAM leaking

Works out of the box
The game seems to just randomly hang out of nowhere after playing 2 - 3 hours. I need to kill it forcefully and start the game again when the issue occurs.
Minus the occasional crashes.
Workes Like a Charm

Occasionally completely froze and needed to be killed externally. On restarting, just worked playing through the same section.
Mostly just works out of the box

Instealled vulkanrt from the redistributables folder unner the proton prefix, 188 FPS avg on the benchmark with everythingk maxed at 1440p

Game leaks VRAM like on windows when not in fullscreen, fullscreen seems to slow it down
Crashes due to VRAM overflow, this happens on windows too, has been an issue since around 2019
Tried it for 15 minutes.Worked same as it would on windows.

A stunning masterpiece
Forcing 30 fps and and lowering TDP
