Works perfectly out of the box.
Traditional hex and counter PC wargames can often be some of the trickiest games to get to run on Linux. Often times they run on ancient, rudemantary engines using things like raw GDI, etc. Well, Warplan is the perfect opposite of that. It uses Unity, and while Unity is of course far from perfect, is does mean it will be almost guaranteed to rune just fine on Llnux/Wine/Proton. The game runs smoothly, has a perfectly fine interface, and is just pleasant to play.

Proton 9.0-2
dxvk 1.10.3 (I set in wine general settings in Lutris) must be used with 1030 gpu (because it has Kepler architexture). Anything higher will not run on 1030.
My tinkers would not be needed for a PC with better graphic card (this current PC a secondary PC for me).
Camera movement on left stick, Zoom on right stick, map modes on Dpad, Esc/Close dialogue on B
My default setting is 9W which I only change in demanding games. It isn't necessary in WarPlan.
Having a tiling manager (i3), I had an issue with the launcher menu overlaying the game as a black rectangle. It seems like a graphical game issue but is only a windowing one. Moving this menu to another workplace removed the anoyance.

Worked perfectly after switching to 6.3-8, including the launcher. Other versions didn't even show a launcher.
Works perfectly!

The Launcher may throw an error at launch. Ignore and proceed. The game itself runs perfectly fine. Nothing to report.
When starting the game an error shows about not being able to load the correct language. This is an issue with the Launcher not the game. Press 'Ok' and the launcher menu will show. Click play and everything should run fine.
