The final boss is fully playable as intended, but requires a native version of dsound.dll.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound.dll=n" %command%
The final boss's last phase will crash if you don't use native dsound.dll
.
- Acquire a legit, native version of
dsound.dll
. - Place it in the game's install directory under
steamapps/common/Azure Striker Gunvolt 2/exe/
. - Set startup options to
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound.dll=n" %command%
.
The final boss's last phase will crash the game if native dsound.dll
is not present.
My microphone volume needed to be decreased to 30-40% in order for the game to not think that my background noise is my voice.
Crashes at final boss when going into its last phase, this fight normally requires an audio input device but still crashes with one connected. Switch version had this feature removed, but steam did not.
Disabling the sound driver via protontricks prevented the crash at the final boss (sound still played regardless):
- In a terminal, enter:
protontricks 1065180 --gui
- Select "Select the default wineprefix".
- Select "Change settings".
- Select "sound=disabled".
- Press "OK" and close any additional winetricks GUI that opens after a while.
Crash at final boss if the protontricks changes listed are not applied.
The game worked fine out of the box up until the final boss, at which point I needed to disable the sound drivers via protontricks to avoid crashing. Once done, I was able too complete the game without issues. My DS4 was recognized and its mapping was accurate using the regular Steam configuration for it.

Mapping is messed
Last boss also crashes
The crash might have something to do with audio devices. As I understood, the original handheld version of the game used microphone in the last boss and this has been ported to PC version very badly and miss-handles audio devices.
The game seems to work fine besides last boss
Last boss crashes

other than the boss crashing the game on default proton settings and some easily fixable Controller issues the Game just runs perfectly.
i went to change settings sound=disabled (change sounddriver to disabled)
remapped some off the buttons on my PS3-Controller to the respective keyboard controls
when using PulseAudio as Audio Driver the Final Boss in Gunvolt's Story crashes the Game during it's Final Phase
The Game didn't recognize some of the Buttons on my PS3 Controller
