The game runs well nearly all the time, save the occassional controller issues. Frame rates are decently high, stutter minimal.
[DualSense Controller, USB wired] Occassionally, the game would either randomly perform actions not intended, like dismounting the mount, or fail to perform intended actions, like dodges or jumps. Sometimes, the game would seemingly move out of its own window when an action was done, like opening the map.

Tried with experimental as well, but getting some stutter when cpu intensive animations occur, with GE version its flawless

-dx11
If you don't have the -dx11 tag it freezes on loading screens for 10 minutes.

the best experience ever (as long as you remember to delete or somehow disable SteamVR) everything is the smoothest it posibly can
dx11 / --use-d3d11 (+ deleted steamVR cause proton never stops searching for a device to connect, wasting resources)
reminder #3 to DISABLE OR DELETE SteamVR FOR ACTUAL PLAYABLITY with directx11

the seccond you load into a world, the game will stop loading any and all assets untill full game restart (going back to the menu will just unload a lot of assets)
I seem to have noticed that some assets that do load are kept until you try to leave to the main menu. it just seems to loose a bunch of assets when loading

ENABLE_VKBASALT=1 RADV_PERFTEST=gpl DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
Some skins seem to be not loading correctly! Nothing game breaking.
The initial game settings (brightness, audio narration, and accessibility settings) load with delay. So if you navigate and try to enter the game quick, it's gonna ask you to set them again.
The game is extremely blurry by default, so if they give you headache too, definitely add: ENABLE_VKBASALT=1
Test if your system works better with Async or without it.
If you still see big numbers on system monitor, it's not your PC, it's the game itself. Very high CPU + Disk Read usage

Only needed to add theEasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe located in ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/New World/EasyAntiCheat/ as a non steam game and launch with proton and install. After this the game runs flawlessly by just launching with Steam.

I've played New World on so many distros now, I can't even remember all. But overall, it's been working very well on each one.

I have over 1.200h logged on this game. The vast majority on linux. I started on Manjaro, moved to Arch, Mint, Ubuntu, Arch again, Manjaro again and now I am playing on CachyOS.
There was a little period around season 2 in which the game was not playable. Ever since then, it's been smooth sailing for me. Anticheat is not an issue and the game runs well.
For anyone who cares for CachyOS, I'm running New World on it now. It works well with their custom Proton-CachyOS and game-performance mode. Not many FPS gains in relation to manjaro and proton 9.0, though.

Didn't have to really do anything except change Proton version. I initially tried with Proton 9.0-3, but it froze on the initial loading screen. Once I changed to Proton-GE, it worked without question.
On a desktop Gaming Rig, runs flawlessly.

On High graphical settings, the game would crash the PC when recalling to a busy city (Brimstone sands) or loging in while already there. Had to switch to medium to fix it.

Runs OOB 👍
Slightly less performance than on windows, but runs fine for me.
Changing the video settings from overall High to Very High let the game crash

Game installed as usual, launches and plays without issue using default Steam compatibility recommendation.

Ocaccionally frezzing and crashing.
While playing the game firefox and Falkon crashes. Opening Chromious results in EAC Kick

First try - Directx11: Just a black screen, won't load. Turned off Steam overlay for attempts after. Second try - Directx11: Loaded, created character, got to play for a couple minutes, then crashed completely out of the game. Third Try - switched to Directx12: Loaded quicker, but put me back on the ship and glitched on deck with no one to attack, couldn't bring up menu or anything, had to kill game. Fourth try, back to Direct11: Back on the ship again, I managed to play for a few minutes and then the EXACT same spot as the second time crashed again. Gave up.

If you have a lot of CPU cores (I have a 32 logical cores), adding WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8 limits the number of cores it can use and almost doubles the FPS in towns (~40 to ~80FPS for me).
Explaination: I discovered this by watching perf top
and noticing that in towns it's mostly waiting on a spin lock system call indicating it's just waiting on other threads so I tried reducing the number of cores allowed and it made a massive difference. Not sure if this is due to CCX locality or just bad multithreading code that didn't consider the overhead of distruibuting to as many threads as possible. Maybe some of both.

Rarely I've had the game crash on the main menu (on the latest update as of mid October 2024). it has also crashed while attempting the tutorial. No other issues are noted.
While this game does require manually enabling proton experimental, it is mostly stable and runs well. I would highly reccomend trying the DX12 experimental option when starting the game, while the frames dropped by about 20-30fps on my system, the game stability and load times improve significantly.

Pleasant Experience
It's minor and doesn't always happen.

Utilisez GE 8.32, et minimisé au maximum les alt tab, derriere, le jeu tourne parfaitement, attention dans les villes, perdre la moitié des FPS est normal, a part si ca ne remonte pas...

Random crashes were common a few months ago. Since 6.9.7 kernel and the last patch of the game it seems completely stable.

As others have noted, the launch screen takes a bit longer than in Windows, but it's slow to begin with. If you're experiencing random crashes, try tinkering with the WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY restriction.

Game ran perfectly, haven´t seen or felt any issues or lags.

Seemed to be a lower frame rate / drops compared to running natively on Windows. Had to drop settings from high to medium to have comparable performance to Windows.
Using the default Proton in Steam the game felt very stuttery. The in game FPS counter indicated a high frame rate, but it felt really choppy. After using Proton-GE it was a lot smoother and playable.

Initial splash screen (New World compass) takes a bit longer than expected, 1-2 minutes.
My wife and I started playing a few days ago. She plays on Windows and has crashed 2-3 times. I've not crashed once.
