Being 3 years since the last report on this type of hardware it's time for a report in 2022
It still works on Linux natively
I don't think there are any ways to save a game
A minor "menu fullscreen window switch graphics glitch" where if you press on Enable Fullscreen or Disable Fullscreen there is a short pause where after pressing on either you can still see the choice you pressed on being displayed on the screen for 0.6-1 seconds until it switches to the one you chose. Same if using Proton Experimental, 7.0-3, 6.3-8 though more pronounced graphical glitches would occur when using Proton, so Linux native is better.
Using Proton 5.13-6, 5.0-10, 4.11-13 the game wouldn't even start.
Didn't try the 3 remaining ones: 4.2-9, 3.16-9 and 3.7-8 so if somebody feels motivated to test those versions, you can do that.
I enjoy playing this game and I don't care if the graphics are garbage. I love GTA Online. So many interesting things you can do.
Yes. Refresh Rate was set to 40 but I wanted Framerate Limit 30 but it wouldn't allow me to do that so I set it to 40 too. Half Rate Shading I turn on whenever I don't need to check some text out what it says. Thermal Power Limit(TDP) is on. Watts is set to 5(no problems in the game for me, no serious ones yet). Scaling Filter: integer. No other tinkering
I intentionally made it difficult to read so I could save battery but apart from that it was also hard to read on the deck, though anyway my use case is to use remote play on my potato PC with the deck being the computer that runs my games. So on my PC I can see if its readable or not and my conclusion: even without battery save, lots of places where I couldn't read the text.
Sometimes I felt it was slowing down but it recovered quickly again.
Rockstar's servers aren't perfect I guess. They don't always reply when queried by the game...
You would not enjoy playing GTA Online because it wouldn't let me past the character creation screen without any tinkering. I didn't try normal play once the character had been created so I haven't explored how the game would run with stable Proton outside the character creation/modification screen.
This Chinese game plays fine on my Intel GPU hardware - Glad this game is Steam Deck verified though and plays fine with default Proton 7.0
Well, acceptable from the standpoint of not finding any game in 8 minutes. Maybe you need to wait 30 minutes and I find this acceptable. Or maybe nobody wants to play on Normal with a 25 rank player
Concluding, my intel hardware can't run this game at all on the default Proton 7.0. I had to tinker, otherwise the game wouldn't work. Very happy that our Chinese neighbors(we share the same planet!) can produce interesting games and motivate us to work harder on creating better games. So let's all create better games and get inspired by this game! Works on Proton!
Yes, Proton 7.0-3 works fine. Don't try native.
Only something in the start screen, but it was so small that I barely noticed it. On native that "something" becomes a strong buzz on my left speaker.
Well, you gotta choose native(no Proton) as a first step. Then go to properties of the game. Select local files. Click on "Browse" and it will open the game directory in the file manager. Open the lib folder. Copy these 4 files into the root directory /usr/lib32 (I don't even own a deck yet to know if this can be fixed on the deck). On my linux system that directory existed but was empty. When I copied in the 4 files they were the only files there. You don't have to mess with any permissions(phew!), just open a terminal while still in the "lib" folder and sudo cp libfmodevent-4.32.20.so libfmodex-4.32.20.so liblua5.1.so libsteam_api.so /usr/lib32. In the game directory which you got to by clicking "Browse" open the file run.sh in a text editor.
Replace the default line "LIB=$GAMEDIR/lib" with "LIB=/usr/lib32" and save. That's all and it was way too much! I only did this because I didn't want to live the hell I had to live through by trying Proton 7 or any earlier version, the game still was totally unplayable in Proton! Native WON! Thx goes to KM for solving my issue! Game runs as smooth as butter! No weird Proton bugs! So happy it can still work, even with all this totally crazy tinkering!
