Set panel refresh to 40.
Very small text, particularly on the exit menu.
Proton 5.0-10 really was the only one that it would work with. How strange to depend on something so old. I took some settings down to medium and got a locked 40 FPS with refresh set to 40. Very smooth. I haven't played through much yet.
There was the odd initial start up issue, but the second time of running very smooth. I had one hang on a cut scene under GE.
Hang on one cut scene early on but not repeated after reloading.
I did have an issue with the game not starting properly at one point, black screen after titles. I think it was a window focus issue possibly Wayland related? I'll keep tinkering. Without GE the cut scenes display as the test card, but otherwise it seems to work fine by default.
Apart from the graphics menu everything seemed to be fine. I didn't want to change the small text size, but some might.
Two installers which needed clicking on with STEAM+trackpad. Only on first launch and worked fine.
Controller was not usable in graphics settings menu, needed to use touchscreen.
Graphics menu didn't have all items available that were there on the Linux desktop. Not sure why. 800p screen maybe? I was happy to be able to replace XeSS with TSR 75% and then turn off motion blur. Could do with the other options present though. Frame rate appeared locked to 45fps.
Seemed like it would be possible to enjoy this on the Steam Deck. Text size is annoying for the very smallest rendering but it's not used a huge amount. Performance OK but limited to 45fps for some reason. TSR much better than XeSS.
This game stopped working on the native port, producing a mess on screen, so I forced Steamplay, which had a loads of different errors.
Blank screen, though graphics card doing lots (it's a card with an activity indicator.) I used to play this a lot and it worked fine, but now there's trouble. I've a fairly new Mesa so it could be that.
Removed all the file manually and re-installed, now work perfectly natively. Under Proton as there is no way to delete my previous comment.
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%
Removed the video folder. Also I had to use a self compiled version of Mesa.
I used this Mesa build script to get the latest Mesa and LibDRM from git. https://gist.githubusercontent.com/baryluk/1041204eff4cc4fad6f1508afe67b562/raw/40a3e57c0888ae03bb5f8d9e79392aec1f1c8a71/mesa-build.sh After that, I needed to run steam using ~/mesa-opt steam. Only the sound was a problem really, but it was so awful I didn't want to play for long. Before doing this and the proton GE selection, it would crash during the loading screen. Still, first time I've had it working at all so progress!
Ray tracing could not be enabled despite using various versions of MESA and trying different launch options. It just doesn't seem to see my GPU correctly. Ray tracing was detected in Windows and functioned perfectly.
Great game. A really good out of the box experience.
Long periods of dropped visuals.
One crash a few minutes in. Haven't retried.
Using MESA build from git there were black screens but some frontside icons. Using Debian's MESA from unstable I could see everything, but many glitches.
A bit of a mess but it seems like they could fix it if they wanted. It's a beta at the moment so I'll try on Windows and compare.
I'll try it without experimental Proton at some point.
When working in fullscreen, it crashed between levels. Worked fine in borderless window.
Only when between levels in fullscreen mode.
Too many crashes. Still fun.
Crashing often between levels and dropping to desktop, but also harder crashes during game play, around once per half hour, sometimes freezing the computer.
All ran fine except for short missing video sections, which I later watched on a playthrough.
Some short video sections and the end titles were missing, a completely black screen shown instead (I know they exist as I've since watch playthroughs).
Failed at BattlEye connection
Failed on BattlEye with the following:
14:18:49: Installing BattlEye Service... 14:18:50: Successfully installed BattlEye Service. 14:18:50: Failed to initialize BattlEye Service: Driver Load Error (1053).
It was polite enough to remove BattlEye when I removed the game.
Proton 4.11-3 worked the best, but still crashed, longest play was around 5 minutes. Also tried 4.15-GE-2 and 4.15-GE-2 but wouldn't even start then.
