The Game Is Borked To The 10th Powered Squared
Like many others, I am unable to get the game to launch. I have tried many PROTON versions, including the latest Glorious Eggroll. Initially I saw what looked like a launcher loading bar diolog box, but I don't see it anymore. From what I understand, people used to be able to launch the game, then 2K made an update, which killed the game. Unfortunately, I waited till now to buy and play the game, clearly that was a mistake. Will 2K take responsibility and fix it? IDK.
All I know is, I played the first two games, loved them! And I was really looking forward to play the 3rd game in the series. Sad :-(
If a gamer can deal with the performance issues then yes. However, if your sensitive to significant FPS drops and stuters, then no.
Sometimes the game doesn't capture the mouse for ingame menu's, forces reliance on the keyboard.
Game has moments where the FPS dips down into the 30's at many areas of the game, as well as stutter during loading moments.
I think the FPS dips into the 30's and the stutters to be considered performance bugs. However, the mouse cursor not being captured in ingame menu's, to also be considered a bug.
In my preivous report, I wasn't able to get the game to launch. Apperently the game got an update on Feb 8th, to addres the concerns for Linux users. I feel it important to note, the only way I could get the game to launch, was by NOT forcing use of PROTON. Other then the moments when performance takes a hit, which is quite often frankly, the game runs fairly stable, no crashes experienced, or texture glitches.
The mouse cursor not being captured for ingame menu's, will force your reliance on the keyboard. Plus, it doesn't help that the developers of the game, made BioShock Inifnite more reliant on the keyboard from the get go as well, for example, forcing the player to hit the ENTER key to make acceptions, instead of just allowing mouse clicks, or pressing the E key.
Overall, I'd consider the game playable, but the performance issues do make that statement a bit of a stretch. I am still enjoying the game regardless, I just deal with the performance issues. Considering that my computer's hardware, is far beyond the games requirements, I know its not a computer problem, its indeed an game optimization problem.
If this game had proper controller support on Linux, this would be an awesome game to play.
I've tried an official Xbox360 wireless controller using connected wire, that never seemed to work on Steam or game. I then tried a Voyaee wired controller which Steam was able to detect and use, but the game never detected it. This game needs controller support, otherwise its too difficult to play via keyboard.
I paid $40.00 for the GOTY edition. Little did I expect, it wouldn't support gamepad controllers. I hope Proton can fix this, as its nearly impossible to play via keyboard.
If I didn't turn on FSR and set it to Super Performance, the audio cuts out along with the video, as it hangs in the beginning cutscene.
If I was running a Proton version of anything but experimental, there is missing title texture.
I experience mouse input lag during the main menu, and sometimes in game menu as well. However, if I set FSR to Super Performance, the input lag is less of an issue.
I have a high end notebook, that should be able to push this game at least 60FPS in 4K ULTRA settings. But this game is so badly optimised, I've heard even Windows users have issues with it. I have to set FSR to Super Performance, and set Effects & PP to MEDIUM, just to get any playable FPS at all!
The game crashed on me, as soon as I got close to the Atrium tree, in Fort Solis. This game is not optimised at all, what a terrible experience. I can't believe I paid 30 bucks for this garbage!
This game has been out for quite awhile now, I assumed it would have been optimised for Linux by now, but its just a garbage game. Its getting negative reviews for other reasons, many don't like walking simulators. But might as well ad bad performance and game crashes as another reason.
This game fails to launch on every PROTON version that I've tried. Upon launch, it crashes.
Launching Steam via terminal, reveals that the game may not be able to detect my GPU, as the possible cause for the crashing. I have an MSI GE76-231 Raider notebook, dual GPU, but I have system set to use Nvidia 3080 GPU only. This game is borked - unplayable!
Audio = 50% Of A Games Experience. Without Audio, You Lose 50% Of That Experience. Until Audio Is Fixed, This IS A Bad Experience.

Common Recommendation To Switch Audio To OpenAL: This Did Not Work - I Still Have No Audio!
With Proton-GE 7.1-GE-2 (build 1643711986) GloriousEggroll the answer is yes, you will now have a fairly positive experience.

Considering I'm running an Intel I-7 10870H CPU & Nvidia 3080 GPU, I'm surprised I have drops below 60-FPS while in 4K at Maxed Out Settings.
I've had only 1 crash so far in 3.6-hours of gameplay so far. I set my CPU to 4GHZ, and I set my GPU to full performance, so far so good.
When this game first came out, it was 100% borked for Linux players. Then a week later, the game could launch and play, but no sound, despite changing to OPENAL. Now 2-weeks later, the game launches, plays fairly well, and has sound. I'm not sure if its the game developers making the fixes, or our folks here at Proton. Whoever it is, I truly thank them. This game is one of the best games I've played in awhile. Its now an enjoyable experience.
Classic situation, game launches to a black screen every single time
This game clearly has no Linux comtability, since not a single Proton version was able to launch this game to go beyond a black screen. Seems to be a common issue with the game remasters these days.
Unable to launch game...
Shows a black box, then proceeds to crash with "something went wrong error" Running steam in terminal, shows that the game is throwing fallback handler can't load symbol messages. Tried several Proton versions, none of them seem to get the game to launch. Borked.
Still Unable To Launch Game After System Wide Update!
-screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080
Since it had been awhile since I did a system wide update to my system, in an effort to fix issues regarding this game, I updated my OS, which I am now on kernel 5.15, and then I updated my Nvidia GPU driver, I am now on 5.25. The Steam APP has also been recently updated as well. I tried several PROTON versions, including the GE 7-36.
I go to launch, black box shows, then I got a new error saying that it wasn't able to fullfill a resolution request. I figure, old game, it must not have support for 4K. So I setup launch options -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080, and while I no longer seem to get an error dialog, the game just opens to a black box doing nothing.
Looking at my terminal window, it confirms its still not able to handle my resolution request. I think that White Day suffers from serious lack of support, the developers clearly have no interest in Linux support. If PROTONDB can make this game run with an updated PROTON role out, it will be a miracle. I don't think there is anything more I can do at this time.
I paid 30 bucks for this game on Steam, so I really hope the awesome folks at PROTONDB can fix this!
