Enabling window mode will require running winecfg, which is a hassle for a proton prefix (use PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS).
The game has severe problems getting proper focus or rendering properly in fullscreen mode. It seems to be conflicting with modern desktop environments. It is practically unplayable if one wishes to ALT+TAB away from the game. A Wine Virtual desktop works a round the issues, however. Intro video does not work.
To get past "Press Space to Continue" one needs to run the game with -nointro - that is, in game properties, set Launch Options: "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -nointro". For whatever reason, -nointro makes the game accept input after loading screen!
Presumably the game has similar texture issues with esync as Bioshock (1), but haven't tried without disabling ESYNC.
Seems to run fine, mostly. There are some stuttering / hiccups when transitioning from an area to another; seems the game is loading something. They do not hinder gameplay (as these do not happen mid-action) and might occur even on Windows - have not and can not try!
I've got graphical glitches at one point in Atlantic Express after Lamb talks you and you fall into water. Haven't played trough Atlantic Express yet.

I've played this game trough without any issues and excellent performance (AFAICT).
Disabling esync required. Also run with -nointro, just to skip the annoying startup stuff.
Sometimes parts of in-game menus (such as tab, "m", or vending machines) stay flickering on the screen. It can give a headache / make the game near-unplayable.
The flickering doesn't happen always, but consistently on every session I've tried. Sometimes one can clear them up by entering another menu, sometimes not. They can fill up the whole screen - and while the game remains techincally playable (it is still running under the flicker) the artifact is very nauseating. As there is no workaround I've found, I'll rate this game as unplayable. However AFAICT I'm the only one with the issue so far!
I used to have flickering OSD problems earlier but they are gone now for some reason.
Seems to work fine OOTB! I'm getting 60+ fps in approximately high settings on everything, resolution 3440x1440 (ultrawide) 104° FOV.
Didn't try higher settings; I've also red here disabling esync will give some performance boost. Tried with OpenGL at first for a few minutes, but then I increased the detail settings while also changing to Vulkan. Didn't do any extensive testing with detail settings, but performance is good enough as it is to not break immersion; however I'm not a competitive FPS player and as such I'm someone who wouldn't notice the difference between 60FPS and 120FPS...
Works incely. Only issue I can see, are characters replaced by three squares (two for "ON" and three for "OFF", I guess) in some menus.
Missing characters in menus replaced by square glyphs.
The game is complaining about a missing save data directory for a few starts, however the error will go away after some data has been saved. AFAIK this is also present in Windows, too.
Muiltiplayer is frequently disconnecting. However, this issue is common on all players in Windows, too.
Since recently()is), this game has stopped working.
It will start the launcher but usually silently exit/crash before starting the actual game. Once in a blue moon, the game might start.
I haven't been able to start the game for a long time - but on my compputer, the problem is too fast SSDs!
DXVK_HUD=1 gamemoderun %command%
The game tends to keep focus when ALT-TAB:ing or especially if using virtual desktops
The game CTDs very early if started from an SSD (too fast media?)
In case you can not start the game because of an early CTD and are using an SSD, try moving it to a slower HDD.
Online mode is unplayable because of recent implementation of Battleye. Story mode works well (AFAICT).
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_HUD=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d gamemoderun %command% -nobattleye
Online mode is unplayable because of recent implementation of Battleye.
Personally, I'm not interested in story mode, so leaving this as a thumbs down.
Online Mode does not work, which is the part I'm interested in. Single player seems to work without issues according to a short test. YMMV.
SteamDeck=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_HUD=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winedbg.exe=d gamemoderun %command%
Online doesn't work.
Installation got stuck installing Visual C++ redistributables, but that may have been just an UI bug. I minimized and maximized the window and suddenly it reported as installed.
The launcher got stuck once. It may have been because the game just releazed and load on Rockstar servers.
Without steamdeck=1 the launcher instantly exits on startup.
Does not work beacause of BattlEye.
The audio works fine with setting openal32=native in winecfg. Presumably the config file tweak mentioned in other reports here and elsewhere also works. However, the game has immersion-breaking FPS slowdowns on my machine at the galaxy map in the very beginning and at the beacon at the very first mission (and presumably here and there later in the game, but haven't played further). Reducing details does not fix / alleviate the issue. This is a known issue in the game (even on plain Windows) but Proton exacerbates the issue for some reason on my setup. I haven't found a workaround, and the issue is so sever I must only give a Bronze rating. This slowdown does not happen in plain Wine nearly as severely (it is there, but to a much lesser extent).
Audio tweak required (set openal32=builtin - not native!) or the config file tweak linked here. Also, csmt hurts performance, reducing FPS to less than half at some parts of the game. Run winecfg on the overlay and disable csmt, and FPS should be quite OK after that!
Minor problems which require tweaking.
Increasing the latency will fix this issue, as in Tinker reports. Without it, the game might crackle especially with netplay posses.
Sometimes in blue moon some textures may be missing textures / screwed up textures.
Nothing up glare settings will screw up hair in the game.
Alt+tab:ing out of game will break fullscreen (game will switch to window) and the game will steal focus.
Performance is not quite up to what I'd expect given the HW, but the game is very much playable.
A few crashes after 1hour+ gameplay, but these are probably similar as with Windows users.
Graphic settings can not often be changed as the game counts the video RAM it is using as other apps. You may be stuck settings with less what your HW is actually capable, and might not even be able to reduce the settings.
Works fine, but the introduction (before character creation) is just a green screen. It can be skipped and I didn't notice any other issues.
Same frame-rate stutter issues are present. I only played trough the tutorial, though, didn't test multiplayer.
Frame rate stuttering I'm experiencing can also be interpreted as a graphical degradation.
The game will exit after 5 minutes if no controller is plugged in (and only keyboard and mouse in use). This can be worked around, however, with xboxdrv. See the github game specific issue for details.
Seems the game is often loading when it should not or there are other stutter issues
The launcher will crash with Proton 5.0-7. However once the launcer has been updated (and cache optimized, up to being able to press "play") with 4.11-3 protron, on subsequent runs the launcher will not crash anymore. Crashes after 5 minutes of running (on the dot) if xboxdrv is not in use.

Only recently I've been able to enable DX12 rendering (which is in beta in the game anyways). DX 12 rendered has more microstutter, however these may go away as I believe the shaders are cached on-the-fly with DX12, and the cache fills.
With DX11 it is much more smooth, however periodically the shader cache needs updating.

Crfashes ~every 30 minutes. Non-playable. Launcher does not work.
Launcher does not work, game needs to be started without it (TBH I somehow did manage to run the launcher a few times, but it usually hangs when one clicks something on it).
I have tried other (also non-GE) proton versions, but didn't find a stable configuration so far.

If I did not disable Fsync, I get constant crashes, making the game unplayable (I was lucky to get trough one map, which means no progress will be saved). With FSync disabled, I've had one crash so far, and it was while loading into the inn (so not in-play, no progress was lost). I've played for a few hours with no crashes.
