Yes, it runs great with a good framerate, the sky texture issue makes it look a little bit like some kind of weird ominous night time
The sky appears black and the clouds look a bit funky on this system. A bit odd since it looks absolutley stunning on my Apple iMac from 2015 under Linux or MacOS.
For some reason I Needed Proton to run despite native
I did not really need to make too many tweaks to it, just drop the graphics quality around 40 or 50, and turn off some of the graphical effects and it ran great.
Got it running under Proton 4.11-13
Had to run through all versions of Proton from the oldest up to this one to get it working properly. After that, and some performance tuning, it runs great now.
It ran great out of the box with Proton 7.0.6 on this setup. did not even have to drop down the graphics quality.
This game has always been a little laggy with the steering if you are using a keyboard for everything, which is what I prefer.
You're going to need to at least enable Proton since this is a Windows only game. However, under 7.0.6 with an 8th gen i5 or faster and a NVIDIA GT 730 with 2GB GDDR5 in it or higher, you can use the default settings.
It would be great for people like me who don't mind the degraded quality, which makes it almost feel like you're guiding a VHS camcorder
Dropped Video Settings to "Low" and then Tweaked as Follows to get the best look and performance on this PC in this current configuration: FOV = 70, Interactive Water on, Bloom on, Lens Dirt Effect on, Motion Blur On (gets rid of that weird waffle of pixels effect), Depth of Field on, VHS Film Grain = 26, Chromatic Abberation = 30, Lens Distriton = 23, Anti-Aliasing = TAA, Lighting Quality = Minimal, Reflections Quality = off, Image Upscaling = Off
Had a bit of a Atari-like pixelated oval of brighter graphics until I turned Motion Blurring on, otherwise, game looks great and runs smoothly on this setup.
The game was defaulting to a custom graphics mode which was preventing the levels from launching. I run Pools on multiple different PCs so it requires different tweaks depending on the computer I'm running it on.
If you are running a system like mine you might need to drop Graphics to Low and introduce new elements to the configuration ala-carte until you find a setup you are comfortable with. I wound up getting this configuration running great by tuning some things down. This might be okay with people like me who are a bit "retro" but for some people who want upper level graphics of course, newer hardware will be better.
They need to understand, Postal was released in 1997, so it's not going to have the same Hi-Fi sound and fancy graphics that a modern game.
Can be a little Sensitive to control inputs, probably because this was originally released on DOS/Windows 9x
Runs great natively. Just a little fast with the mouse, and I had to switch back to the old Arrow Key Layout for walking as I prefer that.
I've seen some people mentioning the graphics, they are intentionally grainy as to simulate a 1980's or 1990's VHS Camcorder.
-dx11
I had slight performance problems on the default settings, mostly the gamma being a little dark, and some very minor slowness on this setup, but otherwise a vast improvement from my older i7 Laptop.
The Complex: Found Footage runs as intended but in my experience runs best with the -dx11 startup variable and Proton 7.0.6. You will NEED a discreet graphics card (AMD or NVIDIA) to run this game as it doesn't like any form of Intel On-Board video I have tried. It will be slow on anything older than 2016.
It's a little slow for regular gamers. I'm able to tolerate it because "Low End Gaming" is something I dabble in for..uh...*reasons*
-dx11 startup option added
The first level's size shows a lot of difficulty rendering if you flick around really fast.
I had a few times where I could not escape full screen. I also saw increased performance issues on this laptop running Full Screen.
First off, laptops don't really work using the WASD keys with the trackpad, at least not on this laptop. Secondly, I had some problems with trackpad sensitivity.
The first level is signifcantly slow regardless of system, assuming it even runs. This is because the map for the first level is HUGE and takes up a lot of memory and a lot of shuffling around.
Once you get past the first level performance increases dramatically due to the smaller maps.
If your'e used to low-end hardware and lower frame rates you might actually enjoy this one. It really depends on your standards and taste.
I had to downgrade the graphics somewhat. This game calls for a GPU, a late 2015 iMac has a integrated Intel chip. It does pretty well though once the graphics levels are lowered.
I honestly was not expecting to get it to run without some sort of video card, but surprisingly, it is doable. Just had to drop proton version to 9.0.4 and drop all video attributes down to about High->Medium-ish. Then it started running quite well.
