Definetly not a game suitable for gamepads, event with the decks' extras buttons. A lot of checkboxs are too small for either touchscreen or pointer controlled by a joystick,
Manageable to play with a mouse only, while having to raise the virtual keyboard from time to time.

Don't use Proton for a native game
Don't use the compatibility layer for this game, it runs perfectly natively. Even mods work great.
Worked until recently
Running perfectly fine using this method mentioned multiple times here:
- Reverting to proton 5.0 for the initial installation.
- Run "protontricks 244850 --force dotnet48"
- Apply this patch: https://github.com/Linux74656/SpaceEngineersLinuxPatches
- Switch back to proton 6.3.8
It worked flawlessly for >100 hours of game, until this morning. Without known reason (no update to the system nor to the game), the game crashes systematically as soon as the save (or new game) is loaded.
DXVK_HUD=full PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60, -skipintro
To switch to another app, SUPER+D (show desktop) works, otherwise the mouse is still captured by the game.
When building a lot, the simulation speed decrease for 1-2 min, but it might be because of the mods I use
To revert the necessary changes for the previous versions of Proton, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. The saves are not backed-up to the cloud, only the blueprints (despite the option "SteamCloud" enabled). But this is a Keen's issue, not Linux or the compatibility layer.
The saves can be found there, do regular backups...

Otherwise, it has been a very enjoyable experience, if not for the past tinkering, this game should now be rated gold.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Does not recognize the controllers, hence impossible to start a split-screen game
If one intend to play it by itself, it's working ; but as a social couch-game it's borked
