Worked fine with default Proton
Was playing on Windows initially, but swapped over to Linux around half way through the campaign. Was able to install and play the game just as if it were on Windows. No bugs that I could tell. Used the default Proton that Steam uses (Proton Experimental as I understand it, whatever build was in use from around Feb 2022).
Great experience with custom proton version. Minor momentary missing textures is the only bug.

Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF, available here: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
There seems to be an occasional missing texture, however when this occurs it isn't for long, and if you're concentrating on the action you won't notice it.
Played with a Mad Catz Arcade Fightstick Tournament Edition (PS3 version). Works flawlessly with that controller. You just have to get used to the mapping of the Xbox controller buttons that the game uses.
Go with Proton 4.11-13 for an out-of-the-box working experience
Seems to have stopped working with later versions of proton. Just tried it again and 4.11-13 works fine. Some people have it working with 5.0-10 versions.
Just works
Works fine with experimental proton at the time of writing, and with Proton 7.0-3. I did attempt to play multiplayer, but there were no matches found so I couldn't actually test it. Single player is nice and easy and fast. Load times good, playability with a PS3-compatible arcade stick has been flawless. Thrilled with how well the game works.
This report overrides the one that I've just done. Having read that some people couldn't view cutscenes, I found that yeah, I have the same problem with the stock versions of proton. So, I tried GE proton, and the cutscenes could be viewed (e.g. go to Museum, Gallery, Cutscenes, 20th Anniversary Movie). Even if the cutscenes aren't that important to you, I found that with non-GE proton, the game with crash when viewing a cutscene. It's the crash that is the reason I say that I don't recommend this with the current stock versions of proton (both experimental and Proton 7.0-3 were tried). So GE-Proton is a must, and with it you'll have a great experience.
Online multiplayer is great, with better performance than windows but with slightly worse connectivity in some cases.
There are significant problems in World Tour mode as many have noted, which may require you to quit and restart to resolve. However, in Fighting Ground, where I spend most of my time, performance is as expected, and doesn't get slowdowns that I would see in Windows 11.
I've played a lot on Windows 11 before playing on Linux. I can say that both platforms have connectivity issues, where I'll experience disconnects mid-game or communication will be lost whilst waiting for games. However, there is one issue which I believe happens much more frequently on Linux than Windows, which is when you get the notification of a ranked or casual match, but it just flashes on the screen momentarily before searching again. At its worst, this just happens repeatedly, at which point I often reboot to Windows and tend not to have the same issue as bad.
I spend most of my time playing this in Linux now. For what I want out of the game, it's definitely recommended.
As a few have noted since the Rashid update arrived, the game crashes when entering or exiting multiplayer,. This bug has been identified and the fix is available (at the time of writing) in the bleeding edge version of Proton Experimental. Here's the Github comment https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6817#issuecomment-1670018521
If you don't know how to use bleeding edge, find Proton Experimental in your library, go into properties, Betas, and select "bleeding edge - latest and untested ..."
Proton-6.12-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Using Proton-6.12-GE-1. Also worked with Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF. Both of these versions are available from https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases These versions fixed the issue of the movies / cut-scenes not showing, or being video-only which I experienced with the bundled Steam versions of Proton
Use Alt+Enter to go full screen. No need to edit files to do this. I used an old Madcatz Arcade Fightstick Tournament Edition (PS3 version) to play this. It works great out of the box. The only thing was that it appears as an Xbox controller, so you will need to get familiar with the button mappings.
Handles changing to full screen better than what it did on one of my Windows machines.
Seems to be very picky about which version of Proton to use. Finally settled on 4.11-13 for me.
Very good out of the box. Needs a couple of tweaks to get HiRes working to make it great.
The game itself works absolutely fine without any tweaks. However, if you want the HiRes graphics, you have to apply the same tweaks as you need in windows. That is, editing the ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Zuma's Revenge/compat.cfg file and using protontricks to edit the registry key. Look at post #9 in this thread for the file changes, and post #15 for the registry changes: https://steamcommunity.com/app/3620/discussions/0/558749824476959109/
Minor issue in that you may see the mouse pointer 'disappear' when hovering over menu items. Selecting use custom cursor in the menu should fix this. If not, there is a DRM-free copy of the main executable that will be created whilst the game is running, that you can copy over the original: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3620/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/
If you have old save games from a Windows install, you can copy them to here: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3620/pfx/drive_c/ProgramData/Steam/ZumasRevenge/users/ This game doesn't support Steam Cloud saves, hence why you need to copy them over.
