Fix crackling by adding default-sample-rate = 48000
and alternate-sample-rate = 48000
to /etc/pulse/daemon.conf
You need the latest NVIDIA drivers, Proton 5.0-6+ or a custom build, and PulseAudio configuration tweaks. But after that it seems to run flawlessly. I've not tried to alt-tab.
Debian/Ubuntu users can get an updated NVIDIA driver package from https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa.
You also might want to edit .steam/steam/resource/styles/steam.styles
and change Notifications.StackSize
to "0"
.
Runs perfectly with proton-5.13-1.
Does NOT work at all with TKG builds 5.18 or 5.19, -GE builds 5.9-GE-X-ST, proton-5.0-9, proton-4.11-13, or any other builds I tried. Only proton-5.13-1.
I figured out how to install mods on Linux (look here for updated version https://github.com/Sheep-y/Modnix/issues/32):
- Download https://github.com/Sheep-y/Modnix/releases/download/v2.5.3/ModnixManualSetup_v2.5.3.7z (or a later version, make sure it's the manual setup one)
- Extract the files in the
Managed
folder in the 7z file (3 DLLs + 1 EXE) tosteamapps/common/Phoenix Point/PhoenixPointWin64_Data/Managed
(no files are replaced) - Extract the file
Modnix.exe
tosteamapps/compatdata/839770/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Phoenix Point/Mods
(you need to create some of those folders) - Install
mono
and basic assemblies, version does not matter - Open a terminal to
steamapps/common/Phoenix Point/PhoenixPointWin64_Data/Managed
- Run
mv System.dll System.bak
- Run
mono ModnixInjector.exe
- Run
mv System.bak System.dll
- Download mods from nexusmods.com and extract them in
steamapps/compatdata/839770/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Phoenix Point/Mods
Tower models or textures do not show, and FPS is horrendous. But it is playable (the towers shoot, they're just invisible). If you set the GFX quality settings to lowest in game, the tower models will show up, but they're entirely black and untextured.
When I used PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1, the game at least loads up the main menu, but then freezes when trying to start a game. I can't be bothered to test other workarounds, because the devs of the game are lazy cunts.

Performance might be a bit low. I immediately set most settings to Low, and I'm running it on a GTX 1070, and it stutters a bit sometimes. I don't have a WIndows partition to compare it to, so I'm not sure. I am happy, it runs well enough for me.
Fonts are not perfect, but more than good enough. Might be fixable with protontricks -q 644930 corefonts
, but I've not bothered to try because the only place I notice is subtitles in cutscenes and level names in the map overview.
When you install the game, Steam installs some weird DirectX stuff - just let it install. After starting the game, go into Video options and lower the textures to minimum, otherwise the game will crash. After that it runs perfectly. I've not used any protontricks or other customizations.
Stuttering and missing textures
My characters head was only rendered as a textureless sphere, including during character creation.
Very annoying stuttering during character movement, and significant performance drops after 10-15 minutes of play (not thermal throttling).
