Laggy input, lack of FMV at start, mild sluggishness, and crashes during party member swaps would frustrate away any regular gamer.
Reinstallation and reconfiguration of nvidia drivers on system
FMV would not run. Additionally, in full-screen mode there was a line across the middle of the screen that mirrored what was expected to be there.
Full screen caused a line to be created with a mirroring effect, as stated previously.
When swapping party members the game would crash if controller movement was too fast. This is still 100% reproducible.
Entering the party menu and trying to swap members would consistently cause the game to crash.
I'm still working on tinkering with the configurations for this. I've made significant improvements as previously I was not even able to run the game. Hopefully further tweaks will yield better results.
The only thing outstanding is the FMV's and associated issues with the new game+ (tied to the FMV)
The FMV's still will not work
This is an update to my previous report, after spending a bit of time tinkering with protondb - highly recommend using the GE fork of protondb.
Everything was running great, no difference from Windows. The best part was my games carried over thanks to cloud file saves.
The only issue I came across was during installation. It froze at one point after stating it was completed. I closed the install sub-window and relaunched it, and everything was fine.
GPU/Drivers not listed properly in my profile. Currently using Nvidia Quadro M2000 with drivers 470.63.01. I'm not entirely sure why it's not reporting correctly - I'll look into that another time.
There is a scanline (line mirroring wrap) that is visible frequently while moving around the map (overworld and dungeon).
Anyone remaining after dealing with music and windowing issues would bail after being unable to get past a cut scene without crashing.
Audio periodically will not start, and requires a restart to get it working. Sometimes it can take several (5+) restarts before it works.
A Similar periodic mirroring effect line appears near the center of my screen for unknown reasons - seen in several other games.
I've had two instances of the game crashing while attempting to access the save screen.
The game is stable provided you do not enter cutscenes. Some cutscenes cause crashes for unknown reasons, as well as when attempting to save. Additionally, the cutscene leaving Killika port has crashed every time (I still have not gotten past it).
