The game works fine with the mission I've played using vanilla Proton 3.16, apart from two minor inconveniences:
- The BZ98R game launcher box doesn't display any images |
- Having Caps Lock on causes the radar to switch when pressing any button on the keyboard
The game works great with the missions I've played using Proton 4.11-3. I am now longer having the issue related to having Caps Lock on, which caused the radar to switch when pressing any button on the keyboard. Only minor complaint is the BZ98R game launcher box still doesn't display any images, but that is an insignificant issue and does not affect the actual game experience.
- Test with "Vanilla Proton": Launching game goes to a black screen and no further. |
- Test with "Disable Esync": Same result as Test 1. |
- Test with "Disable D3D11": Lauching game fails with "DirectX failed to initialize. This game requires at least a DirectX 11 level graphics card, and version on windows which supports DirectX 11". |
- Test with "Wine D3D11": Launches game successfully, plays intro movie, allows you to navigate all menus and sub-menus, but trying to start a mission/ map causes game to fail with error "Bad FPU Control Work". |
- Test with "Wine D3D11" and "Disable Esync": Same result as Test 4.
With Proton 4.2-5, I can reach home screen and navigate all menus. But when trying to start up any missions or maps, game will crash out and display dialogue box with "FP Error: Bad FPU Control Word".

This BZ Forum post from 2014 could be a potential fix to the issue, but I haven't had time to fully investigate it yet: https://bzforum.matesfamily.org/viewtopic.php?t=2260
Game boots up and seems to be running fine so far. Minor issue with the mouse movement occasionally limiting how far the player can turn if you use the 'fn' key on the keyboard to increase brightness or sound levels. Seems to fix itself after hitting 'escape' and going into the 'options' menu then resuming the game again.
No issues encountered when doing a test run through the tutorial mission.
Shows all intro clips without issue when first starting the game, but crashes to desktop when trying to load into the main menu. I do not have this issue at all with the other game in this series, Halo: Spartan Assault.
Game loads to main menu fine, but when starting the prologue level, none of the controls are responsive and so can't move the character or even open the escape menu.

With the latest Proton 4.11-3, trying to run the game is actually getting worse! My system now lags heavily, just on the main menu. It will periodically freeze up for a while, before momentarily becoming responsive again, before repeating the cycle. No other games that I play exhibit this behaviour with 4.11-3.
