EAC servers not supported. Make sure you or your friend turns the EAC setting off before joining.
Like others, I followed this guide to get Assetto Corsa along with Content Manager working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qy_RQr8LbM
Importantly, the most recent version of GE proton did not work for me, I had to use what was recommended in the comments, Proton-GE 9.4.
The entire process only took about 10 minutes. Works flawlessly with both monitor and keyboard+mouse, but also VR with a full simrig. Performance is excellent.

Works perfectly. Try and install on an SSD, and 8gb VRAM is not enough (even for 1920x1080)
For modding, you need a custom Lutris script to download Vortex (for any of the large collections). Premium Vortex subscription necessary to download mods automatically, as .nmx links on nexusmods.com only works for individual mods, and not mod-packs.
Vanilla Game: < 1min setup. Modding-support: >2 hour setup.
