Runs great out of the box. Doesn't require much power so lower the TDP for better battery
TDP limit to 10
some texts will be very small
This game can run really smooth and doesn't need much power. Lowering TDP will still get you great FPS
framerate limit to 40fps, TDP 10 watts
Keyboard not detected, game defaults to steam controller
Works well out of the box. Set the graphics settings to medium and you'll get smooth 40fps
Lower TDP to 8 watts Limit refresh rate to 40
Owned it in Epic Games Store, launched it with Heroic. Did not do any tinkering through Heroic, simply installed and started playing. Runs great, the graphics look good on 800p / 720p screen. it's quite a battery drain so I play it while plugged to the charger.
Plays good out of the box even without using Proton GE. I started playing this without any tinkering and other than the weird start menu background video becoming this static tv screen, the game plays just fine. Use Proton GE if that start menu bothers you too much
Some friends had to send me invites multiple times before finally being able to play multiplayer. Sometimes friends can join my game but I can't join theirs.
Dying Light Enhanced Edition from Epic Games Store. Installed with Heroic Games Launcher using Proton-Experimental. Game runs well without much tinkering. I typically play it plugged to a monitor with keyboard and mouse but playing it on the deck with its gamepad is also smooth. Can be played offline.
When first launching the game, there's a pop up text box. Don't know what that is, just click on cancel and you will get on with the game.
Limit refresh rate to 40. Lower TDP to 10
Text a bit small, but still readable
Frostpunk from Epic Games Store, installed with Heroic Games Launcher. Used Wine-GE-Latest and it runs well. Text is a bit small, but still readable. Highly recommend tinkering with the controls yourself because the game is by default much better played with keyboard and mouse.
Limit FPS to 40. Lower TDP to 10
Runs really well out of the box. It's battery draining but limit the FPS and TDP for better battery.
I have it on my epic games library and played using Heroic Launcher. Plays excellent on steam deck. Online multiplayer works great without any issue.
Runs great on medium setting. Can even run High settings with a mixture of low grass density on FSR2 40fps.
--launcher-skip
Steam Cloud deleted my save files so I turned it off
The game would launch a CDProjekt Red launcher that you can skip using the launch command.
On Steam Deck, running the game with DX12 will cause it to freeze on the pause menu. You have 2 options:
- Change to DX11 using the CD Projekt Red launcher OR edit the /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/launcher-configuration.json file. Look for "Fallback" line and change from "DirectX 12" to "DirectX 11"
- Some versions of Proton GE can run DX12. For me what worked was Proton GE 8-17. You can experiment but I used this and I can play without freeze.
I turned off Steam cloud because it keeps messing up with my save files JUST FOR THIS GAME. so if you have this issue too you might want to consider that.
If you have it on Ubisoft Connect like I do, this is how I installed it using Lutris:
- Go to Desktop Mode
- Install Lutris
- Using Lutris, install ubisoft connect launcher
- Run the ubisoft launcher, log in, and install Watch Dogs 2
- Launch game until you start playing just to check everything is ok and then quit the game
- Add ubisoft launcher to steam, go to its settings and in Compatibility set it to use Proton Experimental
- Go to game mode, launch ubisoft launcher from game mode, click on watch dogs 2 and click install. It's already installed and just need to locate files.
- You can now play the game from game mode.
If you start the game and you have pop ups from ubisoft saying you don't have enough RAM or whatever, that's the launcher's overlay. To turn it off:
- with a keyboard, press Shift + F12 to open the Ubisoft overlay
- you can then click to close those pop ups and go into the ubisoft overlay settings (gear icon on the left) and turn off all notifications.
- if you don't have a keyboard, you can map other buttons to Shift and F12 to access the overlay (eg. L4 and R4)
I only had to turn off the overlay notifications the first time I launched the game and had no problems ever since. It runs well on high settings but turning it down to medium will get you more FPS.
