Using Pipewire as launch options does not work. I need to use the Pipewire-PulseAudio
As by Github Valve Steam Issue Reports I suffer stuttering after a couple minutes of gameplay if the Steam Overlay is not activated. Activating the Steam Overlay seems to solve this as some cache gets cleared by that.
IMPORTANT: Launch options containing "%command%" cause the game to not even start since an update in February 2025. Remove it to get the game running again, yet, I dont know if the rest of the Launch option is working if you remove the %command% tag.
Overall: The iGPU is sufficent to get 50-100FPS on Office, but Dust II A Short drops the FPS down to Avg. 15-25. Jittering also is an issue with the iGPU sometimes. The CPU is running idle at ~30% so its no bottleneck. The game is not CPU intense (as other claimed), at least if your Graphicscard is the obvious bottleneck.
Overall I am not satisfied with the need to use Launch Parameters to get it to run, and the overall performance of the hardware is frustrating for gameplay: Which is sad considering CS:S runs with 200FPS on FullHD with the same hardware .
Valve needs to push the Linux Native version and needs to better support Wayland.
Works like a charm on an older Intel Gen. 8 Laptop Hardware with only some iGPU, as well as on my newer Intel Gen. 13 Laptop with only iGPU.
While Cutscenes the Audio stutters - maybe the scenes are rendered and my GPU/CPU is too weak. Other than that, no issues.
While Cutscenes the Playback stutters - maybe the scenes are rendered and my GPU is too weak. Other than that, no issues.
Despite other tips here in protondb the game would not start with Proton 8.0-5 out-of-the-box: As soon as the EA App startet, it immidiatly closed again.
Here is the solution:
1.1.) I've read somewhere the EAappInstaller.exe that is downloaded with the Game may be outdated. So I've downloaded the newest version on https://www.ea.com/ea-app
1.2.) Replaced the EAappInstaller.exe in "/steam/common/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mirrors Edge Catalyst/__Installer/Origin/redist/internal"
2.) edited the "/etc/hosts" file and added "127.0.0.1 winter15.gosredirector.ea.com" as described by many users -> reason is the server is down which causes a crash
3.) As described in Steam Community https://steamcommunity.com/app/1233570/discussions/0/4360125073503465298/ I've set Proton to 7.0-6 -> this allowed the EAappInstaller.exe to install
4.) After successful installation of the EA-App and Login, I've set Proton to 8.0-5
5.) Game starts without issues.
6.) For extra Performance I've disabled the EA InGameOverlay (IGO): Rename or Delete the "IGO32.dll" and "IGO64.dll" file in "/steam/common/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1233570/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop"
Performance is quite good: It got enough FPS on FullHD with only an iGPU and Video settings on Low to play smooth.
Works like a charm on older Intel Gen. 8 Laptop CPU with only an iGPU and on newer Intel Gen. 13 Laptop CPU with only an iGPU again. BTW: Fun game!
-vulkan
Works really good. Cryengine does perform great even on Laptop hardware with iGPU. Ive used -vulkan Launch Options but am not sure if they even have any effect. Besides that no tinkering needed.
One minooooooor bug: If you use multiple monitors but dont play on Monitor No. 1 (like in: I got 3 monitors, Monitor 1 is on the left but move the Game to Monitor 2 in the middle via SUPER+SHIFT+Arrow Keys) than the Mouse is not working in the Menu and is not "catched". Ive solved this by setting Monitor 2 as Primary in Gnome Display Settings.
Great game - lot of fun. Highly Recommend getting it on sale for $1-3 and play it threw.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command% -vulkan -novid
Only the intro sounds weird - but the ingame sound is fine
Game crashed once in the first mission but playing another 5h went succesful without crash
The game runs smooth even on Laptop hardware with iGPU on max. Settings @ FullHD. I did not need to tinker around any bit so Im satisfied.
The -novid launch option has no effect, and I am not sure if the others do: I simply put them in because Ive read vsync is desired by many but hard to achieve, that is why I tried the Launch Option to limit the Frame rate.
While researching I found another solution in the Steam Discussion Page but never tested it:
- Go to the game configuration file(s) location. .../Sniper - Ghost Warrior/out/Settings
- Open Video.scr using a text editor.
- Add a line line ''VSync()'' at the end of a document. -> There maybe is a VSync Tag already but commented out, so you can remove the comment symbol.
- Save changes and run a game.
Overall with the latest Proton Steam suggests everything works like a charm without tinkering, so dont be afraid to give it a try.
As described in Steam Community https://steamcommunity.com/app/1233570/discussions/0/4360125073503465298/ I've set Proton to 7.0-6 -> this allowed the EAappInstaller.exe to install
After successful installation of the EA-App and Login, I've set Proton to 9.0-4
Game starts without issues.

Ive yet got to try https://github.com/R2NorthstarTools/FlightCore
