Game doesn't launch at all on proton 7.0.2

Experimental bleeding edge causes a splash screen to show up, then a second bigger window shows up but after that it doesn't make any progress and no buttons or way to interact with the window comes up

Tried both experimental and 7.0.1, sometimes I can play for hours but other times it crashes within first 5 minutes again and again

periodic freezes present, long periods without freezes though
Install EAC manually before installing New World. Since my earlier report, I installed Ubuntu 22.04 and after the recent proton 7.0.2 release once I started using experimental bleeding edge the previous crashes are gone.
Fun sandbox RPG, smooth Linux install and play
On first start it was in window mode which cut off some of the window on the bottom during character creation. After character creation you can full screen, then no issues at all.
