Did not start on by NTFS partition, but worked beautifully on my BTRFS main partition. Have not tested on ext4 or similar.
Needed Proton 4.11-13 to play. It is a very short game, so I do not know of any long term functionality
This game would not start when installed on a separate partition (NTFS), but works beautifully with no additional configuration on my main partition (BTRFS)
I needed to run it with Proton 4.11-13. It does not seem to run if installed on an NTFS partition.

Some stuttering
I tried multiple proton versions, both GE and not. I could only get this to work with Proton-6.5-GE-1 release
I am updating my report because my stuttering was caused by the graphics being set to integrated instead of dedicated

In the preferences file (/Star Trek Online/Star Trek Online/Live/localdata/Gameprefs.prefs), there are fields regarding Wine, which leads me to believe that they are working to support Wine and Proton
