It crashes. Constantly.
Crashed in the Detective menu, also when just walking down the street. Hard lock up of the screen. Had to alt-tab to shut it down.
It could be my machine, but the entire system shuts down after playing for 15+ minutes. I've monitored temp and that doesn't seem to be the culprit. I'm suspecting my power source. If anyone else experiences this, then it could be the game. Otherwise it works flawlessly.
Game starts with black screen with sound. Had to exit Steam (game sound still playing in the background after exit). Once Steam was restarted game worked perfectly.
A typical LINUX gamer would enjoy this. There were some minor issues, but things are working so far with little or no major problems.
Text was degraded; more on that in notes.
Some issues: Launcher does work for me, but sometimes the cursor disappears so is hard to use. Considering my hardware, I had to put most settings to Medium and that level made it so that I had to lower resolution to 720. Text is iffy--most places easy to read, but on the in-game "internet" almost impossible to read. In game menus (some inventory and descriptions) are readable but degraded. ALT-TAB sometimes returns a black screen, sometimes it works--you end up coming back with fists out in combat mode. Do this near the cops and bad things happen :). Weird bug: Dellamaine (sp?) quest line: Once in Dellamaine HQ the game chugs severely. Restarts are necessary to get through it, but once outside the game functions normally.
Once a save is made, frame rates drop to about 15 fps. This happens about 50% of the time. Have to restart to get regular frames back.
Game freezes (load bar will not finish entirely) when travelling to a site of grace either from map or because of death. (You can still press E to see tips, but the game will not continue).
If you travel to a site of grace from the map or because of death, I found a 20-25% rate of it locking on the load screen for the site. Restarting the game will sometimes work to fix this, but sometimes it needs a full restart of Steam, and even more seldom, a restart of the computer. Rarely, the game will initially load to a black screen and not progress--the above actions fix this as well. Other than this, the game runs smoothly.
At first game started in full screen mode -- but had black screen; sound functioned, cursor was present, and could even click on things blindly, so was a display issue. I forced the game to start in windowed mode and restarted. Works out of the box with no problems now.
Works with the tweaks mentioned in other Gold posts. For those who find the GitHub instructions opaque: the user_settings.sample.py file is found in .steam/SteamApps/common/Proton [version number]. Change the name as suggested to user_settings.py, then open the file using the command line. There is an entry for PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 which can be uncommented (get rid of the "#" symbol). After this, the game runs smoothly.
Maximizing window from windowed brought up black screen. Restarting game, restarted in full screen with no problems.
Tried all launch options mentioned in the various reports along with all combinations of Proton. This was the only one that worked.
VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%
Had to verify install files. After that mouse would properly control the camera.
If mouse does not work to control camera, verify install files through steam which seemed to do the trick. Other than that the game runs smoothly on medium setting on my GTX 1080.
I just had to change sound settings to get the sound to work.
Had to change system output settings to get sound
Smooth sailing. You should have a good experience out of the box.
There is no fullscreen option as far as I could tell. Full window works just fine, though.
Game pretty much worked out of the box
At first the game would report: "services temporarily unavailable (Llamabeard)". I switched from Proton 4.xx to 7.0-4 and the problem was resolved. Game has run smoothly ever since.
I used Itch.io launcher to run the game, so I added it here as a "Tinker". I didn't have to customize anything other than that.
This game runs flawlessly out of the box on Itch.io. It might run the same on Steam, but I didn't use the key as I felt there was no need to. I wanted to add it here even though it was for an Itch.io version because there were no reports and thought it'd be useful.
Works out of the box, with some possible issues (see notes)
The only problem I experienced with the game while playing online was a heat issue. CPU heat reached critical and shut down the machine. This might have to do with my hardware, but might have to do with the game's lack of optimization. I've run it with a better setup on Win 7 with no heat issues, but overall chugging issues when the scene had a lot of geometry. Keep an eye on your CPU. Hopefully they will optimize with subsequent versions.
