The only issue faced was that after the first load the controller would not work on the 'Do you want to continue in Normal Mode?' message. The only thing that would get out of that state was to close the game and reload.
The fix was simple though, as mentioned by ShadowKai
Go into the Controller section of the games properties and select 'Enable Steam Input' from the drop down
