Game runs perfectly without it and has for years, but I use Lemnis Gate: Salvage Ops to re-enable all multiplayer and hidden dev features.

This is what the game is all about!
I play occasionally with a group of us who just loved the game before it was discontinued. Search for Lemnis Gate: Salvage Ops to re-enable multiplayer and enable custom game types and extra alpha/beta maps.

Sometimes players desync. I don't think this is Linux-specific, but could be.
Updates aren't synced well between Windows and native Linux versions.
