Game starts up to the menus but actual gameplay does not start (blackscreen) or game crashes after 1-2 minutes of gameplay.

Game seems to be borked for linux gameplay with proton after the 1.60 update of the game.

I can confirm that the game is now playable with Proton Experimental Beta Bleeding Edge. For further info check this out: https://discussions.ubisoft.com/topic/161188/tu-1-6-0-experiencing-crashes-freezes-when-playing-assassin-s-creed-origins-on-steam-deck-post-here?lang=en-GB
Unplayable at this point of time

Problems exist for a couple of months now. Won't start with Proton 8.02 or experimental. With GE 8-6 the game starts. I am unable to play it due to the known framerate issues which seem to cause trouble since the newer nvidia-drivers. This is really annoying because I had minimal trouble with earlier drivers / game versions and was able to play it.
After installation it needed a few game restarts, but then it is running flawlessly. Proton version: 6.3-2
Game always crashes during the early cutscenes or intermittant loading screens when the dead body is transported by the BRIDGES truck, beach crab scene or - at the latest - after the BB scene (see also the report by user Galen Erso). I am running the game with "prime-run %command%" option.
Disabling motion blur reduced the crash frequency by a lot but crashes still occur sometimes
Unable to login / wrong resolution
After several updates (Linux/Steam/Proton) in the last few weeks I am not able to login anymore. The launcher does not start in full-screen-resolution (as usual before) and the login button does not react to mouse-clicks or pressing enter.
The game ran smoothly (besides fast travel issue) until two days ago. After an update, the game now crashes beyond the epilepsy warning.

I can only hope for the next update to fix this
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr prime-run %command%
"Create a file as root in etc/sysctl.d called 99-max_map_count.conf and in the file place the following line: vm.max_map_count=1048576 after that save and exit and reboot system. Crashes on loading new areas and fast travel will be eliminated. For a short explantion on what the setting does https://sysctl-explorer.net/vm/max_map_count/ keep in mind the value needs to be above 1 million for this to work and setting above matches the steam deck. I found this solution on the GitHub issues page."
Works like a charm now after re-install an common tweaks.
First time EVER I got this game to work on Linux after updating Manjaro to the latest version and using Proton Experimental at first (after several crashes I switched back to latest stable version which works fine).
I use the following tweaks: WINEDLLOVERRIDES=dxgi=n,b PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% -adapter 1 -vulkan -width 1920 -height 1080 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -cpuLoadRebalancing -ignorepipelinecache
Startup STEAM in terminal with: VK_ICD_FILENAMES=/usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/nvidia_icd.json steam
