Steam overlay causes the game to freeze when opening steam overlay or receiving an achievement. Disabling steam overlay fixed it. Note that I had to enable steam overlay globally in the Steam -> Settings -> In Game section and then disable it specifically for Bannerlord in its game-specific properties under General to fix the problem for me.
Pretty easy to get working at 100% functionality, but I definitely recommend disabling Steam Overlay to prevent issues.
