Some stuttering at the beginning. Left it at DX11 for my short playthrough. Was stable.
Runs natively under Linux. But it kept crashing on me. Using mostly default settings.
Failed to load without any tweaks. Appears to run perfectly after renaming the files and directories as others have explained. Defaulted to Ultra quality for my graphics card.
Ran great after I disabled the UPlay overlay. You do this by changing the settings in the UPlay app that launches before the game. I did not have to install a crack. Steam thinks the game is still running after it exits, but that is probably because the UPlay app is still running.
After some tweaking, it now runs perfectly. First, set the launch options to "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%". Second, start the game. Third, go to the UPlay options and disable the in-game overlay. Fourth, exit UPlay and relaunch the game. UPlay will complain about the overlay being disabled. Run the game anyway. I just played for three hours straight and no crashes.
The game can only use 1.5GB of RAM. So you have to keep it from using too much of it at once. For me, keeping the graphics detail level at "High" did the trick. Also set the command line options to "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_D3D10=1 %command% -dx9".
Override the version of Proton selected by Valve. Just use the latest version. Then everything works, including full screen mode.

Could not make a purchase from the Marketplace.
My XBox controller started working when I disabled the XBox Configuration Support using the Steam Settings dialog.

Runs great at maximum graphics settings. Seeing some black boxes but they do not detract much from the game.
I was getting the crashes after completing a level reported by others. Then I set the launch options to "PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%". No more crashes.
To get rid of the black squares, set the graphics quality to low in the game. There is little difference in appearance. PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 on the command line gets rid of the crashes. With these two fixes, the game now runs perfectly.
