had to run on the console the following command:
WINEPREFIX=/path-to-ypur-folder/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/205230/pfx/ winetricks dotnet40
^check which is YOUR actual folder and place the directory path. This will intall dotnet40, as reported by previews users in the comment, it will make the game working
*P.S.: before launching i did a restart to Steam (it had some updates anyway)
button 'RT' has two actions mapped by default and i cannot remap it (attempts to remap leads to an error saying i cannot remap this button...)
the game uses auto-save. at the first two succesfull launches, after closing the game it was syncing endlessly on steam and I had to cancel syncing. However in my third succesful launch it closed and synced properly, and the save was succesful (relaunched and checked)
Before launching there was a pop-up named "rundll32.exe - NET Framework" saying: "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application"
This showed up twice and i left it be. After this the game launched properly. Hovewer this didn't appear at all the second time i launched the game
OK out of the box with proton 4.11-13
maybe the game is designed this way
OK out of the box with proton 4.11-13
The game runs on slow fps, but I am not sure this is a Linux or proton issue only, since other people have complained on this aspect
OK out of the box with proton 4.11 (this game is a bug itself, either with windows or linux)
OK out of the box with proton 4.11
runs OK out of the box with proton 5.0-5
i had to remap controls for my no-name gamepad. Fortunately the game has this option to remap gamepad controls and keyboard controls
Still broken screen display with proton 5.0.9
eventually will try the 'patch' from other comments/guides and will report back
Gameplay is unreachable, broken, only main menu and settings are ok, using proton 4.11-13
After clicking PLAY in the menu (Find Group or Make Group) it will kick you back on the main menu screen. This is the case regardless of launching with the DX11 or Vulkan option
can start/join a game, but TO MUCH LAG makes it unplayable
missing players avatars
cursor pointer lag & game lag
the lag isn't that awful, it goes away after 2-5 secods and only appears at the start of each turn. but since this game has timed turns (day/night circles) and timing is crucial it will lead to frustration! ~ Also, with proton 4.11-13 it wouldn't enter a game and it wouldn't close unless i used Alt+F4, but with proton 5.0-5 there is no such issue and the game closes OK
Runs out of the box on Proton 5.0.9 :)
cons: buggy mouse movement when onto heavily populated areas with items & won't shut down properly (had to kill from task manager)
Installed either the Final Nights mod or the Antitribu mod
After character creation i was unable to proceed to the game due to a pop-up error "A map change error. Not enough disk space on drive. Now the game exits." which closed the programm.
My final solution and troubleshooting can be found in here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2600/discussions/0/3043857610264642487/
More recent proton versions are compatible as well, but since others here suggested it would slow down the loading screens and other aspects of the game I used 3.16-9 in the end
