Still runs best under 4.11-13, 6.3-8 has fixed stuttering of 5.* Protons but has some input lag for me.
Setup runs but game never starts
Setup script runs, game attempts to load and shows rectangle in centre of screen with Bioshock written on it, but never gets to 3D. Steam then shows game as no longer running. Proton 5.0.5, 4.11.13 and 4.2.9 all give same result.
As of Proton 5.0-9 this game works flawlessly if "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -nointro" is used. Hardly stutters due to precached shaders.
Only runs well on my hardware on Lightest settings, may be same under Windows.
Water does not look correct when surfacing
Occasionally 8FPS on low settings. Proton Experimental gives slightly better performance than 7.0-3.
Frequent crashes once "Ancient Energy" ability is unlocked. Eventually was unable to free vehicle from ice due to the game crashing on every attempt. Tried PROTON_NO_ESYNC and PROTON_NO_XIM and PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE all to no avail.
Game started well in Proton 5.13-6 but framerate slowed down significantly after around 90 minutes, as if affected by bad memory leak. Game ran much better with 5.0-10.
Had 1 Wine related crash over 18 hours, otherwise no issues.
Aside from the crashes it works well with good performance.
With 5.0-9 crashes to desktop after completing a race, usually around 1 crash per hour. Seems even more frequent with 5.13-1.
Works well and is stable. Up to you if you can afford the performance hit of disabling Esync for smooth video.
Videos still choppy if Esync not disabled. Unfortunately disabling Esync came with a large performance penalty on my machine.
Very tight on memory with 8GB, presumably the Wine framework adds overhead. Runs best after fresh boot with only Steam in the background.
Works great, no framerate issues, online play works fine. Tested with 6.3-8.
Game slows down over time, especially if travelling a lot - seems to be some kind of memory leak.
Can crash within a few minutes or a couple of hours, seems to depend on amount of travelling undertaken. Moving from one island to another will shorten the time between crashes. No Proton flag seemed to help.
Works well other than the control issues. Online play can be slightly laggy for others if I run a server.
Sometimes Ctrl, Shift and mousewheel become sticky or function incorrectly (mousewheel makes Sam look down). Seems worse if Steam Overlay is brought up but can happen from the start of the game.
Install script very flaky, possible graphical corruption, possible hang at loading screen and corrupt sound.
~2 seconds of white noise occurs every few minutes during in-game videos and main menu.
Enabling anti-aliasing led to a corrupt intro videos and main menu. Change setting back to 1 in config file in root directory of game.
Install script took a very long time and hung at "Installing DirectX for Windows" several times. Also got stuck at loading screen when starting a new game.
Hung at loading screen one time.
Runs great out of the box with Proton 5.0.5
Severe slowdown noted in some areas, usually with lots of moving/waving foliage. May or may not be the same under Windows.
Near unplayable due to crashes but may be same on Windows! Otherwise ran well in DX11 mode.
Was okay at start but third mission was constant crashes, very hard to progress.
Runs for around 3 minutes then crashes to desktop. Doesn't matter if sat at main menu or in game. Tried using 4.11.13, disabling E Sync and using WineD3D but no difference.
Works fine with Proton 6.3-1. Some audio seems low quality but may be same on Windows?
Completed the tutorial but shortly after got stuck at a loading screen to dock in a port. Game sits there loading forever. Tried PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% but still the same.
Works with Proton 6.3-1. Had to turn all options to low for good FPS but may be same on Windows. Couldn't test MP, no players online?
Slow loading times but may be like that on Windows. Could not test multiplayer as no one else online? Worked fine with Proton 6.3-5.
Game seems to start in fullscreen no matter if windowed or fullscreen is chosen in options.
