PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command% SKIPINTRO
The game stutters on ultra even without the HD DLC. Setting "gamemoderun" and the game to the High preset resolves the stutter.
This report is in regards to singleplay, not multiplayer.
Pronton is required to resolve the "double mouse bug."
With how Linux handles program displays this software is not needed.
Single Player Works, Online Reports "no wifi or data connections"
Works as a single player experience, but all multiplayer functionality (including local) requires and online connection that fails. I even disabled my firewall entirely to test if that was the issue, but no luck.
The native Linux version game me issues, but Proton works fine.
Proton 6 would work, but caused the mouse to get stuck in the bottom left hand corner. More recent Proton versions have a stuttering issue.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=120 %command%
Due to the age of this game, some areas can have framerate issues. Try playing with the HDTP and texture settings.
At this time 7.0-6 appears to be the best "out of the box" version to use when playing this game.
I recommend using the Mod Orginizer 2 linux installer script on github, then following the Viva New Vegas modding guide.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=180 PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 gamemoderun %command%
Followed Viva New Vegas modding guide
Alt-tabbing could sometimes cause the window to not reopen.
As expected of Gamebryo, some crashes can happen.
The game can be played without tinkering, but this is not recommended as several mods improve the stability, viduals, and gameplay.
- Use CTRL+F5 to return to the ScummVM main menu.
- Set all 3 audio tabs to use Timidy.
- Lower the volume a bit in the audio levels settings.
Audtio crackling requires changing some ScummVM settings.
The game palys fine without tinkering, but I was having audio crackling issues.
gamemoderun%command% -nostartupmovies
Borderless window gave me issues on my distro. Fullscreen worked fine.
The game takes a long time to start up. The first launch took over 5 minutes. Subseqeunt launches take 1-2 minutes.
Added the below to the launch options STAGING_SHARED_MEMORY=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE=100000000000 gamemoderun %command%
Massive stutters if you do not use launch options to preload information. Even then it still stutters more than on Windows.
Some ini edits are required to fix visual issues.

No linux specific tinkering was required in my case
LD_PRELOAD="" gamemoderun %command%
You must opt in to the "temporary launcher workaround" beta to play on Linux.
While using the terminals or watching some "cutscenes" the system mouse would appear on the screen.
