I've occasionally noticed some "blanking" where, instead of the game, I get a grey void for a moment. This might be due to my VR setup somehow losing tracking on the headset.
Getting SteamVR working can be a bit of a hassle. Also, for some strange reason, I found that using the SteamVR toggle_async_mode
debug command when SteamVR starts up seems to help getting the lower frame times required on my system, but isn't really needed on Windows.
Alt-Tabbing away from fullscreen makes Control very very sad. Go into windowed mode instead. (Going into windowed mode, clicking away, and later returning to fullscreen works flawlessly.)
Game randomly crashed after about two hours of continious play - have not tested repeatability.
Mostly just works. Launchers are bad but are unfortunately part of Elite for some reason. Intial resolution was set low, but can be fixed in-game like you'd expect.
If the launcher doesn't detect your (new) Frontier account owning E: D, try restarting it.
Essentially perfect performance, not surprising given that Supergiant games have run natively on Linux before.
DirectX will leave artifacts everywhere (probably anywhere the game doesn't explicitly draw). Vulkan has no artifacts.
If your system has an odd component (e.g. an RGB controller) that appears as /dev/jsX
, you must use a controller or the odd component will be used for input rather than the keyboard. Probably an SDL bug and you should see to using udev
or something to make the component behave nicer.
You have to force Proton on this game, which is unfortunate.
Set prefix to Windows 7 via protontricks 275850 win7
. Only required for multiplayer.
- Noticed some KDE effects not working after closing. May be a GPU thing, happens with other titles as well.
- Again, multiplayer requires a Windows 7 WINE/Proton prefix. The easiest way to do this is to get protontricks and run
protontricks 275850 win7
after installation. (For anyone wondering like I was,275850
identifies NMS in Steam.)
Weird amounts of LOD textures. Stuff will have blurry textures for several seconds before popping in to full detail, after which it seems to be fine. May be a performance issue.
Some stuttering in loading screens.
sean murray you've done it again
It Just Works
There's some occasional minor artifacting on the terrain - I'm not sure if this is a universal issue, unique to VR, or a Proton bug.
In the first segement, I noticed occasional stutters. I'm not sure if this is a Proton issue, or if the Steam version just has a (rare) frame drop or something.
