Dota is playable with very annoying freezes when using text input as described. This can dramatically slows the use of the shop.

Graphs and charts do not work and trying to interact with them will crash the game.
Problems with text entry. Opening, closing the text chat in game, replay, or demo mode will cause game to freeze. Game can be unfrozen by clicking with the mouse. Text entry in the shop to search for an item recipe will cause the same problems.
Game will rarely crash when using the menu to look at hero pages after 2+ hours.
I tried tinkering many different settings including drivers, mesa, plasma vs wayland. Could not solve problem with graphs or text input. I recommend using Windows unless significant updates are released by Valve.

Text input causes freeze.
Dota was patched to 7.39 as of 23-May-2025 and the error with graphs has been resolved. The problem with text entry freezing the game remains.
I had crashes every 1-2 hours until I changed from Proton Experimental to the latest Proton GE. The game started and I was able to play without any tinkering so you may not need to touch anything out of the box and Proton Experimental may work well for you.
