Installed, got to menu, there it ended.
It installed fine (native, around 85Gb). But on start the sound was distorted. Menu showed, went to the settings and there the game stopped working. Saw my SSD led burning constantly so suppose lots of disk access. But could only change settings very slowly. Felt like a memory leak (doesn't mean it was one, just were the symptoms of one). After a while no more access to pc. Ark took all resources it seemed. Rebooted the pc. Uninstalled native Ark and looked at installing non-native version. Turned out to be 125Gb. Not enough space left and don't want to uninstall something on a long shot this game may work non-natively. Devs shoudn't claim it runs nativily on Linux when it doesn't or only on a few very specific combinations of hardware.
No issues. Worked great directly after installation. No tweaks required. Played all the way through. Great game still!
Like everyone else: it worked fine till the launcher update. Now it won't start. Tried several workarounds but no dice. Sad state of affairs. Not much experience with Rockstar as a company, so no idea whether they will fix this or help the community to fix this. On the other hand, with Google Stadia and other streaming services on the horizon, Linux will gain in importance (most back ends of those streaming services run on Linux), so who knows... that might be an incentive.
Still doesn't work
Reading many positive reports, I decided to install the game again. Third time lucky, I thought. It worked before the proprietary game launcher from Rockstar. Since the introduction of the launcher it has not worked for me. I get the 'Preparing to launch' message but then nothing happens. No disk activity, nothing. I installed the Glorious Eggroll version of Proton, but that didn't help. Sadly I think on my system, the game just doesn't work.
Frequent freezing of the game. Audio plays, but gameplay freezes.
It's a great game and having played all Hitman games (meaning from Hitman Codename 47 onwards, yes I'm old) I enjoy this one a great deal. But where Hitman one and two of the new era play flawlessly on my system, this one freezes frequently. I am willing to put up with it, because the game is so engrossing. But I do hope ioi will fix these issues, as I am far from the only one experiencing these problems.
VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
After a crash, a restart of the game results in distorted audio. Have to restart Pulseaudio after crash.
The game freezes frequently. This makes the Freelancer mode unplayable as the mission you're on fails when the game crashes.
Game freezes while audio continues. This never happened in Hitman 2016 and its follow up. Since Hitman 3 the game crashes a lot.
Tried several tricks, didn't work.
I tried several of the suggestions in the below thread (Protontricks, different Proton versions, etc.). But nothing worked. Couldn't even launch the launcher. I fear this game is borked for my system.
Although it is an old game, the atmosphere is good. If you can get over the old looking graphics, it's a great sniper game.
Installs and plays fine at first. But after a while my character starts falling through the world at random points in the scenery. Makes the game frustrating and unplayable. Enjoyed what I played but stopped because of this frustrating bug. Other's here don't seem to have this problem.
Doesn't run. Can't find Plaza's launcher
Installed fine. Tried to find Plaza's launcher mentioned by others. Couldn't find it. Did find another trainer v.1.13 (sev2v1135tr.zip). Tried that in the place of the default launcher. But game doesn't launch. So if anyone can point to the correct launcher, for mine and others' benefit, that would be great. (Bit of a shame that we have to use a game crack to launch a legally bought game though...)
Installed it normally. Just booted it up and game went through the normal setup doohickies of direct x and nvidia stuff. Then played. Went through the training and 1st mission of the campaign with no hickups. Save and load work as expected. Switching graphics modes to 1080p worked flawlessly. Audio worked. In short: another game for platinum.

Went through the training and 1st mission of the campaign with no hickups. Save and load work as expected. Switching graphics modes to 1080p worked flawlessly. Audio worked. Then after a couple of missions the game started crashing. Hard crashes to the desktop. Seems like a memory allocation problem in directx. Just reloaded the game and went on my merry way. Finished the game (11 hours) with some crashes. But as long as you save often (you should anyway in this game) it wasn't much of a problem. So enjoyed it but no platinum after more hours of play.
