Great at max settings 60fps. Changes can make it run cooler with less noise and better battery
This game is a bit wierd, running with default steamdeck settings and 60 fps, the OLED Steamdeck gets quite hot about 72 degrees celcius and fanspeed over 4000 rpm.
Lowering TDP to 8w alone gives choppy playback but if GPU frequency is also forced to 1000 Mhz playback is fine at 60 fps. Temperature fell about 10 degrees and fanspeed lowered to about 2200 rpm.
Changes in settings does not save. So you have to make changes to the default graphical settings every time you restart the game.
Added left mouse click to Right Trackpad click
40 fps and 5W TDP for better battery - game runs just as well.
The native linux version has a lot of problems with controllers.
what i did was:
- set control scheme as gamepad with mouse trackpad, (added press trackpad as left mouseclick.
- set Proton version to 8.04 to force running the windows version and not the linux version other versions probably works as well.
- Launching the game and choosing the configuration tool, when it asks you play the game or launch the Controller Layout Tool.
- in the Controller Layout Tool, choose Rendering mode as DirectX 11, and press save. Then exit the Controller Layout Tool by force quitting it from the Steam menu.
The game is now configured
Launch the game again and choose Play Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth.
When the white Daedalic Entertainment animation press the "Start" button on the steamdeck. If it skips the animation, the controllers have been set up OK.
You should now be able to press the A-button when it asks you to click any button, if it does not work press the right trackpad (if it has been set up as left mouse click).
In main menu, using the left thumbstick/D-pad and A & B should work now if that is the case the game is now playable with with the controller. Using the right trackpad as mouse or the touchscreen should work as well.
The game is very finicky with its configuration. Sometimes it just does not work, then you should try to start again from step 3.
