Added left mouse click to Right Trackpad click
40 fps and 5W TDP for better battery - game runs just as well.
The native linux version has a lot of problems with controllers.
what i did was:
- set control scheme as gamepad with mouse trackpad, (added press trackpad as left mouseclick.
- set Proton version to 8.04 to force running the windows version and not the linux version other versions probably works as well.
- Launching the game and choosing the configuration tool, when it asks you play the game or launch the Controller Layout Tool.
- in the Controller Layout Tool, choose Rendering mode as DirectX 11, and press save. Then exit the Controller Layout Tool by force quitting it from the Steam menu.
The game is now configured
Launch the game again and choose Play Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth.
When the white Daedalic Entertainment animation press the "Start" button on the steamdeck. If it skips the animation, the controllers have been set up OK.
You should now be able to press the A-button when it asks you to click any button, if it does not work press the right trackpad (if it has been set up as left mouse click).
In main menu, using the left thumbstick/D-pad and A & B should work now if that is the case the game is now playable with with the controller. Using the right trackpad as mouse or the touchscreen should work as well.
The game is very finicky with its configuration. Sometimes it just does not work, then you should try to start again from step 3.

Had to switch to experimental because the mouse was not properly emulated (cursor stuck in the top or bottom of the screen)
No issues
I thought I had an audio problem with the game, but it turned out the game application was muted in my system settings even though nothing else was muted. Not sure what did that. Not something I ever do.

Some rare artefacts appear
Controllers don't work under any version of proton I tried (including GE and experimental), but I managed to tweak the controller layout to make it playable fairly comfortably.
Had to switch to emulating a keyboard and mouse to start playing
Was able to load the game but couldn't press any buttons to play

Controllers Not Detected with Proton or Native
Using Xbox 360 Wired Controller with Official Config
Native - Controller Not Detected
Proton 6.3-8 - Controller Not Detected
Proton 5.13-6 and 5.0-10 - Controller Detected, but goes to black screen as soon as you press a button to start from main menu
Needed to launch the game under Proton to get the controller to work.
