Works as good on Linux as on Windows with these tweaks.
Without tweaking, the radio does not work properly and skips tracks after 30s.
Go to the folder below (properties --> browse files in steam)
steamapps/common/Fallout New Vegas/Data/Sound/songs/radionv
Then open the files individually with Audacity.
Then, in Audacity, export them as .mp3
(from the file menu) with a variable bitrate of 45-85kb
per second, replacing the files already in the folder. After this the tracks will not skip.
You will need to download a mod to support Borderless Windowed mode. Make sure to enable windowed mode first in your game settings!
It's Fallout :)
I used the experimental branch of Proton for this, but default should work too.
A few FPS less than Windows
Proton_5.0-rdr2-3
Had to use borderless windowed mode then ALT+F11 to force full-screen.
Cloud saves sometimes didn't work
First download and extract this custom version of Proton in ~/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d
You also need to add WINEDLLOVERRIDES=dxgi=n,b %command%
to your launch options.
To get the game to verify you need to switch between the custom and standard versions of Proton until Rockstar launcher works. This took me a few tries.
In order to remove the 60FPS cap you need to modify refreshRateNumerator
in the system.xml
file in your steamapps/compatdata/1174180/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings
folder on the drive the game is installed on.
In terms of performance, I got 69FPS on average in the benchmark using HUB Recommended settings.
IMPORTANT NOTE The game has significant graphical problems using AMD-GPU-PRO
. However, it does not launch with the version of Mesa that ships with Ubuntu 20.04. You will need to update your drivers. I can't speak for Nvidia users, but it appears that you have to download beta drivers to get the game to work.
No longer works, after a game update. Sorry for getting your hopes up.
In some areas assets look like they have been stretched on only one poly, normally looks like a long line coming off the edges of models.
After about two hours input seems to refresh only once every second making movement very choppy. This goes away when the game is restarted. The FPS remains high during this, and frame times are consistent.

I'm using the GOG version through Lutris in a virtual desktop. Without this Alt-Tab doesn't work.
