Loaded a Froob (freebie) account, configured my UI, and ran around a few of the zones. Works as expected on a native environment or maybe even slightly better than expected. To get it working however, you have to use some winetricks. Assuming you are using the default steam directory for your games, this bash command should be all you need: WINEPREFIX=~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/396280/pfx winetricks corefonts directx9 ie6 fontfix
Runs great in both multiplayer and single-player with and without common mods, but only if you run it without Battleye - meaning you cannot get into official servers, or any other servers running Battleye. You may have to tweak some of the gfx settings to get a good frame-rate - some of the god-rays and whatever other advanced gfx settings can cause abnormal frame-drops.

Occasional crashes if video settings left too high. Reducing video settings to "low" makes it possible to play for hours without crashing.
Singleplayer seems to work after setting this in the launch options: __GL_ExtensionStringVersion=17700 ESA_EXTENSION_MAX_YEAR=2003 %command%
Singleplayer seems to work fine. Didn't really test multiplayer.
