No luck with the initial loading screen on Manjaro
The game makes it most of the way through the initial loading screen, then the loading bar freezes and after a few notes of the halo theme the game closes.
Wayland vs X11 doesn't matter, internet connection doesn't matter, but turning off my motherboard's sound may have allowed the loading bar to creep a bit further. It still crashed and I'm not going to play Halo without sound, so I didn't experiment down that route any further.
If I switch to Proton 7.0, 6.3, or 5.13 then the game won't start at all.
The game runs fine on my PC but when I try to stream from my PC to another device the screen constantly flashes red, green, and blue.
The games custom mouse cursor is invisible. Moving the mouse can slow the game to single digit FPS, possible only while a gamepad is plugged in or only when in windowed mode. The game is designed for twin stick controller so I didn't do extensive testing.
The game slows to single digit FPS when moving the mouse inside during a level.
Note that you have to press "Start" on player one's controller to make player 2's ship spawn. This is just how the game works.
The game has some slight issues, but these are problems with the game itself, and are also present in Windows. The dynamic audio system cuts itself off, the game will crash to desktop if you try to view the leaderboard while offline, and the framerate is capped at 60FPS even though the settings menu will let you set whatever you want.
The only real Linux problem is that mouse/keyboard support is borked, (invisible mouse cursor, tanking FPS) but the game was originally designed to be played with a controller anyways.
