It is unstable on Proton 6.3-4 and i think it is kinda pointless unless you have the GOG version.
some frame drops but nothing constant enough for me to notice, and if had any, it might be between 50-60 fps which I don't see the difference.
it crashed on me in less than 15 minutes on the al-qaeda base on Sunday, but i think even in native windows version you have this same problem, but I think on proton is just more common basically.
IF the save files on the steam cloud is readable in all OSs, you don't need to run this wine/proton version. Some games like Hollow Knight don't do that and you have to open the wine/proton version of the game to at least download the save files from the cloud and transfer to the linux save file location. Seeing the fps, it will crash a lot during the gameplay. Maybe if you lower things on the performance tab in the options, like the amount of corpses, ragdoll, physics in general, it might crash less but I am not so sure
Only when aiming with the sniper scope and using full zoom. Basically the mouse wasn't going up unless i really push up, but it was fixed after i zoom out a little.
In this GOG community discussion one of the person there showed how to change through the .ini file.
Open with your favorite text editor: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/POSTAL2Complete/System/Postal2.ini
change from:
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
to:
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
someone with a better pc than mine using proton or with the corrections that i listed will enjoy the game
Proton version works great, but for the native linux verion: go to proprieties and add: "-force-glcore42" and "-force-clamped" (the second one can crash your game) OR "-force-vulkan" for better brightness
i don't know why but when i play this in Linux Mint Cinnamon the Alt-Tab wasn't working, but in every distro with gnome that i used the alt-tab was fine
proton version was almost always sub 60 fps but it wasn't a significant issue
5.9-GE-3-ST GloriousEggroll
GloriousEggroll custom fork: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/5.9-GE-3-ST
With GloriousEggroll custom proton it works out of the box, no need for further customization. I also saw some people complaining about something from manjaro being a problem, for me the only issue i had was: i wasn't using GE custom fork, idk how but that solved all problems. The game runs great and it doesn't stutter, which on windows gave me 2 blue screen of death somehow, so the proton version is even better than windows!
The game works really good, even CDLCs! Except the program that allow me to use the cable mode without having the REAL tone cable

same reason for the slowness of the game, effects: audio is completely bass boosted, distorted and slower speed than it should be
depending on the CDLC (just copy a DLL from customsforge.com to allow it to work) the save file can be corrupted and if you don't have a backup before that you are completely fucked. (the file is on: /home/USER/.local/share/Steam/userdata/YOUR_USER_ID/221680/remote)
If you have save game on windows/mac synced with steam cloud you should have the same save game
Windows version also have this problem: out of nowhere the game changes to sub 0.5 speed and the audio become bass boosted and really distorted. Since i have this problem on W10 i think it is a game problem. A simple Alt-Tab fix the problem on W10 but i still didn't experienced the error on proton
The famous "no cable launcher" might (and probably will) not work. I don't have the REAL original one to test but i think it should work fine
