Unfortunately, the Linux NATIVE version does NOT seem playable, even when repairing some of the reported errors (.config/unity3d/Tsukiware symlinked by .config/unity3d/tsukiware).
When the link is repaired, the game will lock up on new game, so you can never actually start playing.
However, under FORCED Proton 5.13-6, it seems to be otherwise completely stable.
MUST be tweaked to run, but when the tweaks have been enabled, seems to work fine. It is completely unplayable (sound is there, but only black screen) until you have (tried to) install Windows Media Player 9 through ProtonTricks.
I am not sure if it's just the codecs, but WMP9 specifically seems not to work, but it continues to install other DLLs and components.
Once ProtonTricks has successfully installed the codecs requested by WMP9, the game seems to play -- you can view the actual images with the text and audio.
NOTE: No Esync, D3d11, or Wine D3d11 flags seem to work. This appears to purely be a video issue.
Out of the box, does not work at all. No sound, black screen. I used ProtonTricks to attempt installation of WMP9. It fails, but you should try to install this at least twice. After checking DLLs installed, it seems the minimum required is WSH57. When episode 3 comes out, I will try installing nothing BUT that DLL, see if that works, but attempting a WMP9 install twice seems to fix it.
As per the previous two games, I tried copying the configurations, and I have, in fact, narrowed down what must be done: Run protontricks and install WSH57,, and then run it again and install WMP9, which includes some additional programs. For a guaranteed order to make the game work: 1) run the game to register it with protontricks; 2) use protontricks to install the WSH57 Windows component/DLL; 3) run the game again to register the component; 4) install the WMP9 (Windows Media Player 9) application with protontricks -- WMP9 WILL FAIL, but it installs other DLLs and executables that are needed; 4) restart Steam and run the game again -- it should now work.
At the time of this report, I've played almost 4 hours, and I only noticed some issues with missing voices. Purely a minor cosmetic issue.
Some of the voices do not sound off when the text goes by. It seems to be in the area of around 10-20% of the text without audio (I only list this as an issue, because other people have also mentioned it, and the store page says "Full Audio"; otherwise, I might not have noticed).
Overall, works decent. But every time there's an update that's more than just a patch, expect to spend some time trying to debug it.
After the newest update, the only way I was able to get VRChat to run was to enable the "Open BETA" option for the game in the Steam BETAs menu. Once the Open BETA was enabled, it eventually stopped showing up as a choice, but the game continued to work. If you are having issues, try enabling that option, first.
Streams through the media players (backed by youtube-dl) still do not work.
On a multi-monitor display, the window seems to jump around, if you ALT+Tab out, say to check Discord or something. It also resizes. I have VRChat span at least partially across 4 monitors, but it kept moving to the top-right of them and shrinking the size.
I only play in desktop mode, so I can't speak for the VR, but the game occasionally crashes or fails to fully load stuff. From what I understand, this still happens on Windows, too, so not sure that means much.
