There was some audio crackling.
Launch Options: PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
D9VK was required for me to play. There was also some audio crackling that was fixed with the PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC
launch option. There is a network error when the game is attempting to upload your pawn (after hard saving), so that doesn't work at all, but recruiting pawns works just fine.
Unable to get the game to run at all
Unable to get the game to run at all. Game loads to a black screen and Wine gives a generic error before force closing. I tried with different versions of proton and with various launch options to no avail.

Proton 4.21-GE-1 https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
There are minor lag spikes occasionally when entering a new area and encountering some enemies, but the performance is much improved from even 2-3 months ago and nearly on-par with running it on Windows. I am using GloriousEggroll's custom Proton fork and using the ACO compiler that is shipped with Mesa 19.3.
Launch options: RADV_PERFTEST=aco %command% --waitforpreload -gc 1
Works straight out of the box, all while never dipping below 50 fps on high settings. There are a few very minor audio and graphical glitches, but that might be due to the game being in early access.
Cannot alt-tab out of the game
There were 2 small quirks. I was unable to alt-tab out of the game (the game window would turn black when going back into the game), and changing the graphical settings while in game causes the game to freeze (although you can change the settings in the main menu just fine).
Other then that, the game runs great out of the box.
Works amazing, including multiplayer. The only issue I had is my car model wouldn't save and would be randomized upon entering a new track. Besides that, runs just a good as native.
