WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n,b" gamescope -U -w 640 -h 400 -W 1920 -H 1200 -s integer -- %command%
Some crackle in the start menu, no issues ingame
Menus are rendered black
The game is playable without any patches, but I highly recommend cnc-ddraw. Otherwise you will have issues, like broken - as in black - menus. It is more fun with working menus.
Gamescope:
I used gamescope, as I like integer upscaling. I also use FSR to compensate for the 3x upscaling - especially the videos sequences profit. You might want to use some scaling and/or shader option provided by cnc-ddraw.
The game selection screen might not respond without patched ddraw and crash with it in place, but it does work if you resize the gamescope window once.
One could limit TDP, but battery life is okay without tinkering
Textures pixelated on newer Proton versions than 4
Windowed mode seems to improve performance a bit
Use Proton > 5, Performance will still break in from time to time, but it is absolutely playable..
Out of the box it crashes after the intro videos.
Set lowest TDP (3W), runs well
It just works as you load it from Steam without any issues.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER="" gamemoderun mangohud %command%
You need to unset the SDL_VIDEODRIVER env variable if you use Wayland. No problems on X11.
Works out of the box, controls are okay, but I always customize it.
Default is extremely inefficient.
- TDP: 6W
- GPU: 700 MHz
- FPS: 40
Pixelated, sometimes unreadable, fixed by changing to Proton 4 or Native
Steam Deck Controller not recognized. It is rather random.. changing Proton version might help, as the startup script gets reset. Really annoying.
FPS hickups, but playable
I had to tinker a lot.
Native versions are inefficient and laggy.
Proton versions newer than 4 do have broken textures and pixelated fonts/texts.
I do not understand, how Valve validated this to be compatible with the Steam Deck.
Out of the box it is not really playable, after tinkering it is okay (if you are lucky and the controller is recognized).
You need to use power options to increase the battery life, otherwise the game just smokes you battery.
FPS 25, GPU 200 MHz, TDP 3W
Even touch is kind of working.
Some minor graphical glitches.. but this is expected on Daedelic games.
These are just Bug, that are also apparent on Windows.
F4 for fullscreen enables pixel perfect scaling

I really wanted to use a more Steam Deck optimized layout, so I created one.
Native version and Windows version with several Proton versions not working.
