Entirely playable, unless you're using bluetooth headphones.
There was a significant audio delay (couple hundred ms) when using bluetooth headphones (tested with 2 different headphones). A bummer given this is a rhythm-based game. No delay when playing over the speakers or wired headphones. I don't think this is an issue with Proton, since the native Linux version also has this problem, as well as the Windows version running natively (on Windows).
Tested using a Dualshock 3 controller -- input & vibrations work flawlessly, though obviously the game displays xbox buttons.

I've played the game for ~2 hours and had a single crash, some segfault in libxcb, might be a wine bug.
I tested the game using a Dualshock 3 controller, input & vibrations worked flawlessly (though obviously the game displayed xbox buttons).

Version 5.8-GE-2-MF of https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom
If you enable PhysX in the launcher, it will complain about your hardware not supporting it. I simply ignored the warning and everything worked fine, stable 60 FPS with HW accelerated PhysX.
Tried several proton versions, with xact installed via winetricks. None of them worked.
Tried Proton 6.1-GE-2, 5.9-GE-8-ST, 5.0-10, 5.13-6, and experimental. No game window was displayed: the game was displayed as "running" in Steam for ~10 seconds, after which it would close.
The reason I tried to play the game under Proton is that I was disappointed by the performance of the native port (maybe it's the nvidia OpenGL driver's fault).
If you're desperate, I managed to install and run the game with Steam running under Wine (so no Proton, as Steam itself thinks it's running on Windows). Lutris made the process straightforward, as there is an installer available on Lutris's site. I installed xact in the prefix using winetricks. The Wine version I used in Lutris is lutris-6.0. With DXVK, the game runs much better (about 60-70% more FPS), barring occasional stutters due to shader compilation.

5.9-GE-8-ST GloriousEggroll. The game didn't start on latest Proton.
The performance with Proton is WAY better than the native port - I got a 2x FPS increase. Occasional stuttering, probably due to shader compilation.
