PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Native version crashes after the intro video. Using current Proton (7.0-4) with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" does the trick for me, no issues with the game so far.
For some reason using Proton version 6 or newer drastically impacts framerate to being borderline unplayable, even at low resolutions. Runs perfectly with 5.13-6 though.
strangle --vulkan-only 60 %command%
Set fps_max "120" in config.cfg
Crackling happens, but it's mostly on loading screens and menus, so not a dealbreaker.
Post processing effects like Vignette Effect and especially Film Grain cause some ugly artifacts; though I'm not sure if it's actually Proton related or "working as intended".
Heavy tearing and periodic stuttering. No Vsync option in game. Using nvidias "Force Composition Pipeline" in combination with fps_max=120 and libstrangle I was able to achieve tear-free 60 fps in game without the stuttering.
Game won't run at all without the "magic" dlls provided by MR.RYS337
protontricks 50620 d3dx9 d3dcompiler_42
Some artifacts when smoke / water is displayed
Performance is all over the place. Sometimes great for an entire session, sometimes nearly unplayable.
Seem related to the borked video playback
No videos. Since there are plenty of them and they're integral to the story I'd say this is virtually unplayable. Tried everything suggested so far, in game videos just won't work. Strange thing is, with Proton Experimental the intro videos are all displayed even though they're also mf / wmv files...

Videos don't have ambient sounds, only voice
Tried the newest GE Proton which fixes most problems. I did a lot of tinkering with the game, so I'm not sure if the protontricks 50620 d3dx9 d3dcompiler_42 is still required with this version.
Game itself runs flawlessly now, even video playback works in general, but for some reason only voice acting is audible, everything else is silent. This was not the case with Proton Experimental, where the intro videos played with sound, but all other videos only showed the mf test screen placeholder image.
Initially issues with sound crackling and random black screen at startup; Newer versions of Proton seem to have mitigated that - played through the entirety of Doom 3 + RoE, Lost Mission without further issues
-screen-fullscreen 0
Older version of Unity, needs the "-screen-fullscreen 0" launch option. With that, no issues, no Proton needed.
One of the better native versions around
Sometimes "soft" crashes during the intro video (looks fine but doesn't let you continue to the menu). Restarting the game always worked for me. Also had some crashes when using the car to drive around in "The Caspian".
Can't confirm the problems with the 525.xx driver, at least in combination with my 1070. Played 6 hours without crashes. YMMV, may be related to RT or newer hardware.
Starts without tweaks, works fine with 2 Steam Controllers. A bit laggy at times, also has some of the usual Unity issues (Screen Tearing etc.). System doesn't recognize the game as activity, will go to Lock Screen / Screensaver if played only with Controller. Overall very playable though!
strangle 60 --vulkan-only %command%
Experienced slight stuttering / frame skipping and tearing. There's no in game VSync-Option and the frame limiter doesn't work reliably; to mitigate I used libstrangle to limit fps to 60 and activated "Force Composition Pipeline" in the nVidia Control Panel. No further issues after that.
Alt-Tab always crashes the game
I was experiencing random crashes (NOT related to Alt-Tabbing or Notifications), suggestions from other reports didn't help. Eventually I found out that, at least for my configuration, putting everything on "High" or lower in the Advanced Video Options prevents these crashes, with the most crash-prone option apparently being "Geometric Details".
I use GE-Proton, which is not a requirement - Proton 7.x does also work but has a really long startup time for some reason.
Upgrading to nVidia driver version 525 improved stability
Alt-Tabbing still crashes the game, but the occasional random crashes completely disappeared with the newer driver.
Barely 60fps average @1080p on the High preset.
Had issues with frequent crashing, actually getting yeeted back to the login screen before I did some updates: Newer drivers in combination with a current GE-Proton seem to help.
Perfomance is okay-ish. Probably not a Proton issue though, game doesn't seem to be well optimized overall.
Runs pretty great overall @ 1080p Ultra Settings (using FXAA) with all DLC / no mods installed. Didn't run entirely ootb and still has a few annoyances: Cloud Sync of Saves only worked partially; Launcher throws error messages, though inconsequential; Playing with Steam Controller in Keyboard Mode doesn't allow remapping in game (Recognizes all keys as "0x45"); Quitting the game always causes a freeze; No sound crackling issues for me, lip sync can be off at times though.
Runs ootb with current Proton (7.0-3)
At first I started the game with recommended settings from earlier reports ("taskset -c nice..."). Those actually led to random crashes for me. Removed all launch options, now runs without any issues.
Working perfectly with current default proton
Intro videos have a green bar at the bottom and some light chromatic aberration. Other than that, flawless perfomance with Proton (7.x and 8.x both worked).
Works out of the box even with stock Proton, with the exception of some ingame videos displaying the Media Foundation placeholder image. Latest Proton-GE fixes that. Other than that, no issues, great performance, no bugs encountered.
