Changed right stick to output middle mouse btn on outer ring, which was then set to a radius of 1, which worked more consistently for me than outputting middle mouse on touch. Also enabled hold to repeat on L1 & R1 (for zoom).
I set the in-game framerate limiter to 30fps & set the Steam Deck's refresh rate to 40fps. This seemed to result in better battery life than 45/45.
The text ends up very small on the Steam Deck's display. It can be slightly improved by lowering the "UI Layout Reference Height" option in-game.
While the game is playable on the Steam Deck in handheld mode, it still works better with a larger display and a keyboard & mouse. I also only get about 1-2 hours of playtime on battery.
Docking the Steam Deck and playing with a monitor, keyboad and mouse results in a great experience playing at 1080p 30fps.
Set launch options to "%command% -onethread"
Only thing I needed to do was add the -onethread option to the launch command, afterwards the game played with no issues found.
Standard version worked great using the latest Proton Experimental (As of April 23, 2022). No other tinkering required.
Completed the entire game without any issues.
Works great out of the box. About the same performance as the first Subnautica game on Linux and maybe even a bit better.
Very minor artifacts. Mainly affects the scanning effect, causes ambient creature particles to render incorrectly, and a odd coloring of the water surface on a rare occasion. Does not affect the playability.
