Intro movie doesn't play. Still skipable.
The Store Bug is finally fixed by Proton-GE, the game is playable. The game rating should be upgraded to Silver at least. But there is still ares to improve, having to using Proton-GE is a bummer, Cut scenes are good to have and they don't fail very nicely.
I have been playing this game on Linux for months and hundreds of hours now, it works perfectly.
Controlling the camera with the mouse is buggy, but keep in mind that I use Wayland and that I play the game with a controller, that is I think the problem is fixable I just never cared to try.
There is only two minor problems: The launcher and the opening video. Both can be bypassed by a change in FFXIV_BOOT.cfg, as mentioned in the other comments.
Aside from the opening video I have encountered one unplayable cutscene (One on Final Binding of Bahamut turn 5), the cutscene is still skippable so don't have to restart the game. I watched tons of cutscenes on Linux and that was the only one that was not playable. It is unclear as to why.
There were also multiples patches during the time I played and no new issue was introduced.
So yeah after you fix the launcher this game plays as if it is native.
Cutscenes audio is out of sync.
Game is poorly optimized even in Windows
Given the silver rating I was rather surprised by how well I was able to enjoy the game.
Perfomance is lacking
My hardware is pretty mediocre and this game poorly optimized. Running through Proton isn't doing me any favors. All that said, my biggest compromise in graphical quality (resolution downgrade) seems to be a consequence of my graphical card lack of VRAM (4Gb) and a game hungry for memory. So It is hard to say how much is Proton fault.
Audio out of sync
Audio is out of sync with the cutscenes. Characters expressions are a little awkward in this game so this got me a little extra confused at first. Fix it my adding "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%" to launch options.
Misc
I um using Proton 6.3-1. Using Proton 5.13 causes the game to crashes frequently and even froze my PC.
I used Feral Gamemode to try to improve perfomance but couldn't notice any difference.
Works out of the box
Played for an hour, eveything is working perfectly: Graphics, audio, inputs, battle, skits. The Silver rating is an understatement.
Finished the Game. Everything works.
Literally nothing to report. Game works out of the box.
