If you're running an RTX 2080 card, there is a decent chance you will ecounter freqant crashes.
Game crashes every 5 to 20 minutes. Tried different distrbutions and Proton versions but all the same. Issue seems to driver related for the RTX 2080. Game will freeze and the watchdog will kill the process after 120 seconds.
Worked fine without any tinkering.
Fixed Nvidia issue where game stutters whenever player moved around the world by adding: nvidia-drm modeset=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-options.conf
Refer to Debian Nvedia Wiki before making these changes.

Ran terminal command to fix sound crackling
Terminal Command used to fix audio crackling: pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-quantum 2048
Command works for other games with same audio crackling issue. Command is not persistent after system shutdown/reboot and will need to be re-ran to take effect again.
