Random freezes
Overall the game is playable, but there are performance issues. It seems Windows players have them as well, with the exception of random freezes that happen after some time. I tried changing Proton version to GE and a couple of command workarounds (LD_PRELOAD=""
and PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
), but that didn't help.
Depending on your hardware, you may be forced to play with very low graphics settings, which spoils the overall experience.
Sometimes some weird stuttering can appear, it gets away after opening graphics settings and pressing "apply" (no need to change the settings).
On my hardware (which is not poor for this game according to the system requirements) decent FPS can only be achieved at 720p with most graphics enchantments off. Shadows off or low, otherwise it becomes completely unplayable.
Apart from the graphics issues, the game works well.
When there are no save files (before starting a new game for the first time) a gamepad doesn't work in the main menu, but starts working as soon as you start a new game. Then the problem doesn't appear again.
The game is pretty buggy itself, a lot of bugs appear on Windows, but I don't know whether the gamepad issue happens there too.
Works perfectly out of the box, no need to mess with proton versions and config files.
Native Linux version has a bug that causes the game to freeze when opening the map (and at some points during the game the map is forcefully opened, requiring a restart to continue). Playing with Proton Experimental is good, no issues, except framerate seems to be a little unstable compared to native version.
