So... I was orginally banging my head against the wall wondering why my game would not work as I had recently reimaged my PC and had the game on a secondary drive, but after going through system logs it appears that the game needs some MS Visusal studio and some DX 11 config files installed. In order for me to get this working I had to reinstall the game as steam will install these properly. If you have similar issues to mine please try reinstalling the game. I see several people on here having issues. I was able to reproduce this error on my kbuntu laptop that has an Nvidia GPU.
