Works excellently with but a few minuscule problems
The game froze with a black screen when it lost fullscreen focus while in the elevator, and could not continue (level progress lost).
Minor connection issue on my first attempt at hosting a session with my friends. No issues after re-hosting.
Works great with some tweaking. White screen crash fixed with different gpu drivers. EasyAntiCheat Runtime required for multiplayer.
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV %command%
I initially had issues with crashes right after the game launched to a white screen. Checked the Proton logs and figured out it had something to do with the gpu drivers and then tried to force some alternatives. RADV did the trick.
To get multiplayer to work I had to manually install the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime app from the Tools section of the Steam library. Without it the game will simply launch in Offline mode.
I also tried a bunch of other suggestions which did not help :
- Using "bleeding-edge" Proton Experimental - Made no difference
- Using custom Proton GloriousEggroll - Game cannot connect to the game services and will only launch in Offline mode.
- Reusing "eldenring.exe" as **"start_protected_game.exe"* - Game will register it as "Inappropriate activity" and only launch in Offline mode.
Perfect
Have since last report undone all tinkering.
Works perfectly out of the box with no modifications.
Got stuck at the white screen after pressing New Game.
To bypass that, it required the Media Foundation DLL installation on Wine prefix 683320 to work, as described in previous posts.
I tried installing it on a different Wine prefix at first, but that did not work.
Follow the instructions given by different posters.
Resolved crash issue upon launch
All 3D-textures in the game were replaced by a bright red color. Game HUD seemed to work. Game menus worked fine.
I tried using several other launch options, but it seems to be a very persistent issue. I tried using Glorious Eggroll custom Proton, but it didn't change anything.
Initially launched it with Mesa 19.3.4, which would yield a launcher crash. I got in touch with a Proton developer, who recommended updating the Mesa version to 20.0. I followed the instructions to install the latest Mesa version here: [link] But it turns out this did not work for me though for some reason. It still crashes upon launch.
The Proton developer did however recommend me to also try out the RADV/ACO renderer, and that turned out to work perfectly.
Using launch options:
RADV_PERFTEST=aco
Proton 5.0-9 resolved any prior issues
Straight out of the box. No launch options.
Excellent
Works out of the box with no modifications.
Lowered frame-rate during first few minutes while ironing out shaders.
Notable audio crackling in menu screens.
The fix to rename the launcher is well described in previous posts.
Recently the game requires you to force the compatibility tool version of Proton to version 4.11, as Proton 5 will crash the game immediately upon launch.
Used GloriousEggroll Custom Build version Proton-5.9-GE-6-ST
Game freezes with white screen during ending cutscene. Works using custom Proton build.
Runs fairly well in full-screen mode. There are some random shading issues while in window-mode and full-body model issues if the AA samplings were set to more than 4x.
