This is a great VR game with great graphical fidelity and it runs perfectly via proton, but does require minor tinkering to work.
I can confirm that I had the same issue as the others in this thread. I had to add the opencl.dll from my local Windows 11 install at c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows\syswow64 to /home/$user/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compdata/2274200/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32 and /home/$user/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compdata/2274200/pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64 respectively. The game would just crash otherwise. I am running this game natively in steamvr with a Valve Index headset. Thanks to all for the info.
The game runs great as long as the opencl.dll file is copied as described, it seems like a pretty simple fix for Valve or the game dev.
this game is perfection! Runs flawless, everything maxed completely, very smooth framerate!
Both Windows and Linux have issues with this game with gsync/freesync enabled (at least on my system) get lots of black flickering, and Im not a fan of using DLSS, it does weird things to some materials in the game, like water reflections and so forth, it runs so smooth its not really needed anyway. Outside of that, KUDOS, an amazing game.
slow performance in Proton with raytracing enabled, smooth on Windows with the same settings enabled.
Major performance hit with raytracing enabled.
the game runs well in normal raster mode, raytracing works, but there is a major peformance hit on raytracing that I dont experience when running on Windows with my system.
The main campaign runs very well aside from occasional crashes, easily on par with performance on Windows, possibly better in some instances
The game crashes to desktop occasionally
Cant use any mods with this game, the game crashes upon loading them.
The game is very playable and enjoyable on Linux, though at lest for me the inability to play mods is a downside, hopefully this is resolved in a future update as there are some major mods for Alyx coming soon.
Game crashes instantly on start.
Its worth mentioning that I have a lot of issues with this game in Windows, but usually can play through it. Its totally unplayable in Linux.
Tried this game again after the 2.0 update.
Still fails to launch under proton. Tried experimental and several Proton-GE versions, no dice.
This game is now working
Climbing mechanics are very inaccurate
I was surprised to find that this game is suddenly working under Linux, I believe its a steamvr update that resolved this issue as other games are worming now as well.
Erratic joystick behavior, pulls down and to the left, joystick works fine in windows
Runs extremely well, not being able to use the stick is annoying though as I have always played prior titles in the franchise with joystick.

I decided to try to use the VRWarrior mod for this game, in windows performance is absolutely terrible, I have to turn all settings to low and reduce the render resolution in steamVR to about 80% of normal to get a decent framerate, in Proton this was NOT AN ISSUE!! VR is playable. I have a fairly recent system, Ryzen7 5800x with 32gb quad channel ddr4 ram, but due to gpu market using a 1070ti for now so the fact its running VR this well in this game is nothing short of incredible.
Both Moss and Moss2 run perfectly out of the box for me on my system. Great perfromance!
This game is amazing, must play if you have a VR headset!
gamemoderun mangohud PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% -autoconfig
The launch options seem to be required for functionality. performance is roughly on par with Windows, with DLSS averaging about 90fps in 1080p 80ish in 1440p.
crashes in vr mode
So the game works extremely well in regular mode on Linux, in VR mode it crashes on start with a black screen. It gave an exception error a couple of times, I havent been able to make it replicate that again since though. As I primarily play this game in VR in Windows, thats an issue for me to play this on Linux. Any help is appreciated.
Runs incredibly well so far
I just installed this and made it to th e castle level, met all of the main villains. So far no crashes, the game runs very smooth, incredibly so actually. with all settings except for shadows maxed and i am running a GTX 1070TI. The visuals on this game are truely stunning, just amazed at how smooth it plays.
This game runs better on proton on my machine than any other, a rock solid experience.
The game runs great, and the pre rendered videos used to work, all of a sudden I get a test pattern when they are displayed on screen.
Test pattern shows instead of pre rendered videos.
previously reported video issue resolved.
performance loss every once in a while when exiting to the menu and going back in game, restarting the game resolves this issue.
The issue I previously rpeorted with pre rendered videos displaying a test pattern appears to now be resolved.
